{"id":176,"date":"2009-09-26T11:01:09","date_gmt":"2009-09-26T19:01:09","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/blog.mozilla.org\/tomcat\/?p=176"},"modified":"2010-12-31T02:34:12","modified_gmt":"2010-12-31T10:34:12","slug":"opensource-in-governments-and-municipality-yes-it-works","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/blog.mozilla.org\/tomcat\/2009\/09\/26\/opensource-in-governments-and-municipality-yes-it-works\/","title":{"rendered":"Opensource in Governments and Municipality?  &#8211; Yes it works !"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>A lot of people work with OpenSource Software like Firefox, Thunderbird and a lot of people contribute to this Projects as Developer, QA or with spreading the word and many other things.<\/p>\n<p>During the <a href=\"http:\/\/blog.mozilla.org\/tomcat\/2009\/09\/26\/fantastic-2nd-opensource-meeting-in-munich\/\">Opensource Meeting in Munich <\/a> Florian Schiessl from the Munich <a href=\"http:\/\/www.muenchen.de\/Rathaus\/dir\/limux\/english\/147197\/index.html\">LiMux Project<\/a> gave a great talk about the Limux Project (Why they started this Project \u00a0etc ) and a lot of interesting background information.<\/p>\n<p>It was great to hear that in the Municipality of Munich 100% work stations using Firefox and Thunderbird ! Munich is not only the City of the Octoberfest or Soccer \ud83d\ude42 , its also the &#8220;German Silicon Valley&#8221; \u00a0and one of the most important IT Cities in Europe.<\/p>\n<p>Also after some research i found an very interesting article from the <span xml:lang=\"en-GB\">Federal Foreign Office of Germany about <a href=\"http:\/\/www.auswaertiges-amt.de\/diplo\/en\/AAmt\/Abteilungen\/070914-IT-imAA.html\">&#8220;Open codes for an open society \u2013 German Foreign Office saves money by using open source software&#8221;<\/a> and &#8220;Firefox is the standard web browser, official emails are written using  Thunderbird and official notebooks are exclusively furnished with Linux  and OpenOffice.&#8221;<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span xml:lang=\"en-GB\">Its great to see that the Idea of OpenSource is getting spread also beyond &#8220;end user&#8221; !<\/span><\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>A lot of people work with OpenSource Software like Firefox, Thunderbird and a lot of people contribute to this Projects as Developer, QA or with spreading the word and many other things.
