favorite tool is the one-on-one interview.<\/p>\n<p>I invited Julie Francis, the principle of <a href=\"http:\/\/bellaviaresearch.com\">BellaVia Research<\/a>, who started as a market researcher, but now does a mix of user and market research to demystify what a focus groups is and when to use one.\u00a0 <a href=\"http:\/\/www.slideshare.net\/bellaviaresearch\/bellavia-research-mozilla-when-to-use-focus-groups\">Her slides<\/a> and <a href=\"http:\/\/cf.cdn.vid.ly\/5q4s8k\/webm.webm\">recording<\/a> are well worth watching &#8211; they are packed with best practices.<\/p>\n<p>Before beginning any research project, you need to ask yourself &#8211; what are you trying to learn?\u00a0 <strong>The method you use to collect data depends on the type of data you want to collect<\/strong> &#8211;
