{"id":790,"date":"2012-06-07T07:30:18","date_gmt":"2012-06-07T14:30:18","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/blog.mozilla.org\/ux\/?p=790"},"modified":"2012-07-16T10:37:17","modified_gmt":"2012-07-16T17:37:17","slug":"site-identity-ui-updates","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/blog.mozilla.org\/ux\/2012\/06\/site-identity-ui-updates\/","title":{"rendered":"Site identity UI updates"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Starting with Firefox 14 beta we are refreshing the site identity UI for desktop.<\/p>\n<p>Goals for this design are:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Reduce redundancy in main UI by only having one favicon that lives in the tab<\/li>\n<li>Increase security by removing the ability for websites to spoof the favicon<\/li>\n<li>(Re) Introduce a consistent encryption indicator<\/li>\n<li>Streamline the URL bar and its contents for <a href=\"https:\/\/wiki.mozilla.org\/Firefox\/Features\/Theme_Refinement_and_Evolution\">Australis<\/a><\/li>\n<li>Have a consistent location for accessing the identity panel<\/li>\n<li>Retain the drag target for bookmarks<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><em>Note: These changes apply to all platforms<\/em><\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/blog.mozilla.org\/ux\/2012\/06\/site-identity-ui-updates\/normal-state\/\" rel=\"attachment wp-att-796\"><img decoding=\"async\" loading=\"lazy\" class=\" wp-image-796 alignnone\" title=\"Default Normal State Icon\" src=\"http:\/\/blog.mozilla.org\/ux\/files\/2012\/06\/normal-state.png\" alt=\"\" width=\"560\" height=\"200\" srcset=\"https:\/\/blog.mozilla.org\/ux\/files\/2012\/06\/normal-state.png 560w, https:\/\/blog.mozilla.org\/ux\/files\/2012\/06\/normal-state-252x90.png 252w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 560px) 100vw, 560px\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>The globe indicates a regular site and serves as a consistent drag target and access point for the identity panel.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/blog.mozilla.org\/ux\/2012\/06\/site-identity-ui-updates\/ssl-state\/\" rel=\"attachment wp-att-797\"><img decoding=\"async\" loading=\"lazy\" class=\"alignnone size-full wp-image-797\" title=\"SSL State\" src=\"http:\/\/blog.mozilla.org\/ux\/files\/2012\/06\/ssl-state.png\" alt=\"\" width=\"560\" height=\"200\" srcset=\"https:\/\/blog.mozilla.org\/ux\/files\/2012\/06\/ssl-state.png 560w, https:\/\/blog.mozilla.org\/ux\/files\/2012\/06\/ssl-state-252x90.png 252w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 560px) 100vw, 560px\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>For sites with SSL encryption we re-added the lock icon and show &#8220;https&#8221;.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/blog.mozilla.org\/ux\/2012\/06\/site-identity-ui-updates\/ev-state\/\" rel=\"attachment wp-att-798\"><img decoding=\"async\" loading=\"lazy\" class=\"alignnone size-full wp-image-798\" title=\"EV State\" src=\"http:\/\/blog.mozilla.org\/ux\/files\/2012\/06\/ev-state.png\" alt=\"\" width=\"560\" height=\"200\" srcset=\"https:\/\/blog.mozilla.org\/ux\/files\/2012\/06\/ev-state.png 560w, https:\/\/blog.mozilla.org\/ux\/files\/2012\/06\/ev-state-252x90.png 252w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 560px) 100vw, 560px\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>Sites that have an EV (Extended Validation) Certificate have a green lock icon and include the name of the site owner.<\/p>\n<p>Additional next steps for improving security UI include:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>A streamlined and more easily readable identity panel<\/li>\n<li>Exposing more information about your relationship with the site e.g. how many times have you been there<\/li>\n<li>Notifying you if you are submitting sensitive data over unencrypted connections<\/li>\n<li>Notifying you if you are submitting data to a site for the first time<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Starting with Firefox 14 beta we are refreshing the site identity UI for desktop.
