{"id":1253,"date":"2010-08-06T14:22:05","date_gmt":"2010-08-06T22:22:05","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/blog.mozilla.org\/webdev\/?p=1253"},"modified":"2010-08-06T14:22:05","modified_gmt":"2010-08-06T22:22:05","slug":"new-support-questions-on-sumo","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/blog.mozilla.org\/webdev\/2010\/08\/06\/new-support-questions-on-sumo\/","title":{"rendered":"New Support Questions on SUMO"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>This week, we pushed version 2.2 of <a href=\"http:\/\/support.mozilla.com\/\">support.mozilla.com<\/a> (SUMO). The main feature in this release was our new <a href=\"http:\/\/support.mozilla.com\/questions\">Support Questions<\/a> feature, replacing the old Firefox Support Forum.<\/p>\n<p>The Support Questions, designed by the inimitable Chris Howse,\u00a0 take advantage of a number of HTML5 and CSS3 features to improve the look and experience: rounded corners, background gradients, <code>placeholder<\/code> and <code>accept<\/code> attributes, and more.<\/p>\n<p>We are also using a number of server-side technologies now available to us to improve performance. From the database layer\u2014we moved from MyISAM to InnoDB tables and improved the schema\u2014to the views\u2014we are using <a href=\"http:\/\/celeryproject.org\/\">Celery<\/a> to offload non-real-time tasks, like email notifications and thumbnail generation, from the web server thread\u2014we have built a system designed for speed, which we hope our users will feel.<\/p>\n<p>So check out the new <a href=\"http:\/\/support.mozilla.com\/questions\">Support Questions<\/a> on SUMO. If you&#8217;re already a SUMO contributor, we hope you&#8217;ll be as excited about the new platform as we are. If you&#8217;re not, this is a great time to start!
