New Adventures for Dolly, Bernadette, and Winston

Firefox Live was created to raise awareness of the red panda species (aka “firefox”) and their endangered status (in addition to sharing the cute cubs with the world). To help achieve this goal, we partnered with the Red Panda Network to promote preservation and to support their Forest Guardian program.

On March 27, we will close the the Firefox Live site after more than 250,000 hours of cuteness. While it’s been a lot of fun to watch Dolly, Bernadette, and Winston gain Internet fame, they are now reaching eight months of age (adulthood) and it’s time for them to continue onto bigger and better things.

Bernadette, Dolly and Winston are kind of a big deal in the red panda world. They are the three most important red pandas held in zoos currently, since they bring a new gene pool to the current parents-to-be. It is now time for them to leave the Knoxville Zoo and start families of their own. Bernadette will be heading to Virginia Zoo in Norfolk, Virginia, to meet a very eligible bachelor named Oscar. Her sister Dolly will be traveling along with Winston to Zoo Boise in Boise, Idaho.

Tremendous thanks to Sarah Glass and the rest of the Knoxville Zoo for their help and great work, and to everyone who participated in Firefox Live. If you’d like to continue to support Dolly, Bernadette, Winston and red pandas in general, we recommend any of the following:

* Knoxville Zoo
* Red Panda Network
* Virginia Zoo (Dolly and Bernadette)
* Zoo Boise (Winston)

Celebrating 7 years of Firefox with the newest (and cutest) Mozillians!

Today, we are excited to join together as a global community to celebrate the 7th birthday of Firefox. As the only independent browser with a mission to make the Web better, we are proud of how the last seven years of Firefox have pushed the Web forward:

  • The latest release of Firefox is more than 32 times faster than Firefox 1.0.
  • We recently shifted to a new release cycle to deliver features, performance enhancements, security updates and stability improvements to users faster.
  • Leading edge HTML5 support in Firefox ensures that developers can create beautiful and exciting Web experiences for users.
  • Favorite features like tabbed browsing, built-in phishing and malware protection, the Awesome Bar, Do Not Track and our gallery of thousands of  Firefox add-ons give millions of users around the world more choice and control over their Web browsing experience.

To celebrate, Mozilla has once again adopted firefox (a.k.a red panda) cubs at the Knoxville Zoo. For the next few months, you can watch these baby firefoxes play, live and grow via a 24 hour live video stream at Firefox Live. Please help spread the word by sharing the cuteness of our newest Mozillians at Firefox Live.

Love Firefox? Help a fellow user out!

Every day, thousands of people tweet their Firefox questions. We wanted to set up a lightweight way for them to get answers right away from fellow Firefox users. That’s why we’re pleased to announce a new community care program called Army of Awesome!

Anyone with a Twitter account can join the Army of Awesome and reply to a tweet about Firefox. Many times it’s as simple as showing someone where to find the info they need. Just as we routinely rely on signposts to navigate streets, we’ve created some standard signpost messages so you can direct users to commonly searched pages.

Mozilla community members are known for being helpful and that spirit has been a key to Firefox’s success. You don’t have to be a Firefox expert to join the Army of Awesome – though of course experts are welcome! Simply choose a tweet, sign in with your Twitter account, and select the signpost message that will point the user in the right direction. Or, even better, create a personal response in your own words.

Go to the Army of Awesome page to try it out. Sending replies to users’ tweets takes only a few moments and goes a long way toward helping others have a better Web experience. If you’re looking for other ways to chip in, check out our new participation page full of quick and easy ways to spread Firefox!

Happy tweeting! And remember…good things come to those who tweet!

Hola. Szia. Guten tag. Alo. Student Reps goes global

Students around the world love Mozilla’s products and embrace our mission. Our 2,100 student evangelists have a global presence, reaching schools in 77 countries around the world. To more effectively communicate with our student leaders, we are going international with our student guide as well.

We are relaunching the Mozilla campus program as Student Reps. Previously known as Campus Reps, our student community will now live at studentreps.mozilla.org. More than just a fresh design, the new Student Reps site also offers localized content to make it even easier for students to participate around the world. Our very own Student Reps made this possible, translating the site into their native languages with the help of our localization team.

Students can use the site to brainstorm project ideas, find marketing tips, and learn from other reps. The new Student Reps site is already viewable in Albanian, German, Hungarian and Spanish. Look for more languages to be added in the coming weeks!
