How To: Planning Events in Your MozSpaces

WPR regularly receives questions about setting up events in Mozilla’s Spaces. We should, we’re the experts! Follow these instructions to be a super-planner too!

1. Fill Out an Event Request in Service Now

In the WPR section of Service Now the Events Request will prompt you for all the info needed to make things happen (e.g., date, time, number of attendees, dietary restrictions, etc.). Include your cost center if you’ll be ordering food or drinks.

You can get back to your ticket from the main page by clicking on “My WPR Requests” in the Service Now sidebar.

2. Save the Date on Google Calendar

Make sure to reserve your room for the time you want! You are responsible for reserving the room(s) you’ll need for your event. Learn how to do this here.

3. IT Support or Air Mozilla?

Are you presenting something?  Do you want a video recorded and archived?  If you need IT Support (Service Desk) or Air Mozilla support, simply click on the links at the top of your Service Now event page to get our IT experts involved.

Any questions? Please ask your Office Service Coordinator for help. We’re happy to do so!

Black boxes = Mystery. Everyone knows that. This photo is posted with the consent of those pictured.Privacy Day Cake

On January 29th we celebrated Data Privacy Day at our MozSpaces worldwide to raise awareness about the importance of protecting personal information online.  Although Data Privacy Day is nationally observed on January 28th we spent the week hosting various speakers and events.  Nico Sell, the CEO and co-founder of Wickr, spoke to us from SF.  She outlined the risks to our online privacy and shared tips on how to protect ourselves better. Afterwards, we shared privacy day cupcakes as well as good conversation.

Painting the Sphere in MV2014

August 25th, 2014 | Category: Mozilla Spaces

When we built/designed MV2014 we paid special attention to the art we’d have in this space.  A few projects were in process when we moved in last March. Painting the giant sphere on the first floor where IT and Engagement sit was one of them.  It was completed this summer.  Check out this great video about artist Andrew Shoultz and get a peek at the sphere!

As great as it looks on the outside it has a purpose, too:  Inside there are 4 mini Vidyo booths with wall-mounted monitors and cushy bench seats.  Next time you are working from Mountain View be sure to book one of these spaces for your next conference call.

MozArt!

August 25th, 2014 | Category: Mozilla Spaces,News and Events
San Francisco’s 7th floor and Mountain View’s 2nd floor received a brand new piece of art this summer. Mozilla’s Rust logo was fabricated using COR-TEN® steel, is 42″ in diameter and given a nice rusty patina.  These pieces weigh about 100 pounds each and are being mounted very carefully by expert art handlers.

This installation is part of a larger art program that was initiated late last year. John Slater, Sean Martell and Barry Munsterteiger on the creative side with Rob Middleton and Pauline Proffett from WPR, formed a team charged with pulling Mozilla’s art assets and photos into one location and selecting pieces to display in our San Francisco and Mountain View offices. Through that process we’ve established a core art program for Mozilla’s offices that includes the option to install MozSpace logo signage in office reception areas, framed Mozilla branded t-shirts in work spaces and conference rooms, along with a wide variety of Mozilla branded art and photos.
What’s next, you ask? First, we’re moving beyond San Francisco and Mountain View to other MozSpaces.  So if you’re a Mozillian outside of California keep your eyes peeled, new art will likely be coming your way! Next, we’re looking to add local flavor and personality to each office where art is concerned:

Global Maker Party Cantina

August 25th, 2014 | Category: Mozilla Spaces,News and Events
On July 15th, Mozilla kicked-off Maker Party, a 2-month global campaign to teach the web, and to promote web literacy, connected learning and digital skills. What is Maker Party? Through thousands of community-run events around the world, Maker Party unites educators, organizations and enthusiastic web users with hands-on learning and making.
To mark the occasion, MozSpaces all over the world hosted a Maker Party-themed Cantina on July 17th. Local staff in each space demoed some cool Maker Party tools and Mozillians came together to do a jig-saw puzzle with a Maker theme! Check out the site for future interest in attending an event, running your own event or sharing an event you are doing.
