One and Done is being decommissioned October, 2016

One and Done began several years ago as an implementation of a big audacious goal by the Web QA team. We wanted to create a way for people to learn about Mozilla, and to jump into contributing without any previous background. Since that time, many contributors new to Mozilla were able to find and complete tasks in wide variety of areas.
For a variety of reasons, we have decided to decommission this tool next month on October 31st, 2016.

Why are we retiring the tool?
One of the primary reasons that we are retiring One and Done relates to the planned retirement of Persona – currently used as our sole method of authentication. We do not have the resources to assign to this task, and believe that a change this big needs to be done correctly. The team members who have worked on this project have done so mostly in our spare time because we felt passionately about making it easier for community to get involved.
Also, there is a very good argument to be made that alternatives already exist for this tool. The onboarding experience for new contributors is important to us, and it makes sense to consolidate entry points. We will be recommending that people interested in contributing make their way to:

Lessons learned
This project started off with a lot of enthusiasm, and few resources- a not uncommon experience. If we were to start all over again, here is a short list of suggested changes:
* Begin with the support of multiple teams or areas. This tool was initially focused on QA as that’s where it originated.
* Get input from multiple teams and types of users when building out the initial feature sets.
* Get support from management to secure assigned resources for the work, at least for an initial proof-of-concept period.
* Iterate with more input from users, and build future features based on a wider set of use cases.

What next?
One and Done will remain open and functional until October 31st, 2016. After that date all profiles, user data, and tasks will be permanently and securely deleted.
After the end date, we will implement a redirect to http://whatcanidoformozilla.org/ so that interested parties can find a valuable way to contribute to Mozilla.
Thank you for your support and involvement with One and Done. We appreciate all of the contributors who worked on tasks, and contributed to the source code- in addition to all of the teams who added tasks to work on. If you have any questions, please post them to the dev-quality mailing list.

I think it’s a pity because it was an excellent way to work with QA newcomers. I am really sorry to see the end of a great project!
