Contributing to the Mozilla Foundation

A few add-on authors have asked about directing contributions to the Mozilla Foundation. You definitely can- if you’re an add-on author and
interested in directing your contributions to the Mozilla Foundation, it’s simple and easy to do. Just set the PayPal e-mail to accounting@mozilla.org and contributions to your add-on will be directed to the Mozilla Foundation PayPal account.

You can add the following text to your add-on description so that contributors know where their money is going:

“All contributions for this add-on go to the Mozilla Foundation. Mozilla promotes openness, innovation and participation on the Internet. Learn more at www.mozilla.org/foundation.”

    Can we change the contribute-link text for such extensions?

    “The developer of this add-on asks that you help support its continued development by making a small contribution.”

    This text is larger and higher on the page, so I think it’s important for it to not mislead.

    Nick, this is a really great idea. However, the add-on description is located way below the contribution message, this way most people will not notice that the contribution will not go to the add-on author (especially given that the contribution message suggests otherwise). While I would love to participate in the contributions program and support Mozilla Foundation at the same time – this feels like giving people wrong expectations which is why I disabled contributions for Adblock Plus again.

    Something like,

    “The developer of this add-on asks that you help support his online porn addiction”

    It would be nice to have an option for “percent of contribution” goes to Mozilla and developer can choose what percent he/she wants to contribute to Mozilla.
