Transitioning to a Thunderbird support “Consultant” May 1, 2015

Hi fine Thunderbird folks

I am stepping down 100% from my Thunderbird support “Accountable and Informed” (using the RAICS [1] model) role on May 1, 2015. Until the end of April 2015 I will continue to be doing Thunderbird support stuff, attending events where possible and attending meetings.

Why consultant?
Consultant means I will unsubscribe from Thunderbird support related bugs and mailing lists but you can find me on IRC or needinfo me or email.

Why such long notice?

Three reasons:

First, I’d like to try and solve with SUMO-DEV’s help as many as possible of the support papercuts and bugs that Matt, Wayne and others have pointed out on support.mozila.org .

I’d also like to do a content audit on all the Thunderbird KB articles in conjunction with Joni, the SUMO content editor.

Finally, I’d like to find a a volunteer (or volunteers) to be responsible and accountable for Thunderbird support (KB articles and support.mozilla.org)

I will be holding a series of regular Thunderbird support meetings for this transition starting in late September or October. Please let me know if you are interested in attending! email me rtanglao AT mozilla.com or contact me in #sumo at :rolandtanglao.

I’d like to thank all who have helped with Thunderbird support and am looking forward to working out a good transition!

Cheers!
…Roland

Thunderbird Future Transition in November 2012

This fantastic photo by lrargerich reminds me of the awesome potential of transitions

After the release of Thunderbird 17 on November 20, 2012, Thunderbird is transitioning to be a community-led project. Check out JB’s post on Thunderbird’s future, JB’s interview with Tristan about Thunderbird’s future and Mitchell’s post for an overview of this Thunderbird transition post Thunderbird 17. Also here are two excellent threads on the the tb-planning mailing list: thread 1: change of release and governance model for Thunderbird, thread 2: papercuts

What does this mean for Thunderbird support? I’d love to hear your thoughts and suggestions. Please post your community-led Thunderbird related feedback and suggestions as a comment here or if you are a support contributor you can also post on tb-support-crew mailing list (and of course you can always email me rtanglao AT mozilla.com or contact me on IRC at irc.mozilla.org, nickname: rolandtanglao, I am usually on the #tb-support-crew channel)
