I am anxiously awaiting the arrival of Weave. And while it may have been asked already, I am wondering if this principle is being applied to Thunderbird as well?

I cannot sign in to Weave any longer. Nor do I have the email I used to register. Can you help me? My user name is either belsj or op.ut.belsj; neither is accepted in combination with my password.
You can reach me on the address above.
    Thanks.

I agree with older bud. They can add all the features they want but if we can’t use it because of server issues who cares? This could be a great offering-can’t someone write a coupla sentences once a month and tell us what is happening?

Is the Weave project dead? It sure looks like the lights are on, but nobody’s home.

It’s been months since I registered for notification about increased server capacity and taking on new accounts. Haven’t heard a thing. All the recent discussion here, apart from the generous servings of spam, is inquiries from others in the same boat since Google pulled the plug on Browser Sync.

If Weave is still an active project, would it be too much to ask that someone update the roadmap or send a status update to the email list?

Check the comments here. Last update was from @cbeard on June 21st. They’re still working on it!

Personally I hope that the fact that it’s currently down is a sign that they’re prepping the server for 0.2.

I agree that the forums being down has been extra frustrating as we all wait for Weave. If only FF 3.0 weren’t so awesome that I had to upgrade before Weave was ready… 🙂

With all sincerity… Thanks! For those of use that have several platforms that we use regularly (I switch between several OpenSolaris, Linux, Windows, and OS/X machines in the course of my work) this project is the best thing since sliced bread, IMHO.

  81. cbeard wrote on :

@gagendel: there will definitely be support for operating your own server. the new version adds a couple new server-side components, in particular, to enable sharing but those are optional. regardless they will be open source and available.

while mozilla doesn’t officially support opensolaris, i suspect that the new version will work but will require a recompilation of the new binary component that implements encryption. the current version relies upon openssl and we’re deprecating that.

in terms of when the new version will be ready, the best i can say is “real soon now” so stay tuned. we’re as eager as anyone to get this update push out!

  82. Matt wrote on :

@cbeard, thanks for the update and hope to see a release soon.

@gagendel a local server would be very good for something like a small company who doesn’t, for whatever reason, want to trust “the cloud” with their information or just someone who has a server already for files.

  83. gagendel wrote on :

    Questions:

    1) What’s the status of the update? the 20th has come and gone.
    2) Will OpenSolaris be supported? The last time it failed login because encryption wasn’t supported.
    3) Will there be documentation on setting up a local server for Weave?

I’d like to really bang on Weave and give feedback, but the service has either been down or it fails to let me log in.

    Thanks.

    preferences Sync would be great!!!

But also great would be if this could sync and manage “sessions”/”groups of tabs” the same way LINKWAD does…

To have sessions separated by names and be able to switch between them would be a Dream (with auto restore previous sessions as well)…

is there a possibility for this???

But making personized Firefox everywhere will be more important! I want the same personized firefox in both my PC and my notebook!

Bookmarks synchronization is far from enough!!!
I eagerly need addons synchronization, which would synchronize all my addons. For example, after my notebook install a new add-on, firefox in my PC should be able to download the same add-on, and set the same preference, and do the same work!

You guys are great! I think you can do it!

@michu: Weave is free and open source. it’s being developed by Mozilla Labs as a prototype for a potential new feature for Firefox. Mozilla is a public benefit organization dedicated to promoting choice and innovation on the Internet. you can learn more about Mozilla at http://www.mozilla.com/about

  95. cbeard wrote on :

@Chet Grey: the current thinking for preferences sync would include the ability and an API for extensions to specify preferences and annotation-like data (which could be other forms of data or pointers to external resources) which would be sync’d by Weave. still a lot to figure out though, there will be a broader discussion around requirements following the 0.2 release.

  96. cbeard wrote on :

@Matt: actually, the current version of Weave synchronizes every 30 minutes. with the new version we’re working on moving toward what we’re calling “real-time sync” that uses heuristics (e.g. bookmark added, browser closed, etc.) to intelligently predict when it should do so. the goal is to get to a point where you don’t have to think about sync at all. it’s going to take a bit of iteration to get it right, and to evolve the algorithm, but we think it will be worth it in the end.

  97. david wrote on :

When I heard that Google was going to pull the plug from it’s poorly maintained Browser Sync project I immediately looked for alternatives. An Firefox Weave does the trick – very well considering it’s early stage of development
