Tell us about your favorite add-ons for a chance to win one of three Android tablets!

Update: The winners have been chosen!

In 200 words or less, tell us how your favorite Firefox Add-on makes your day more productive, saves you money, or just makes you happy. A special panel of judges will pick 10 finalists, and the AMO community will pick 3 winners. Each winner will receive an Android tablet and be featured on the addons.mozilla.org homepage!

Contest period: April 24, 2012 – June 24, 2012

How to Enter

To enter the contest:

  1. Write a review of your favorite add-on at https://addons.mozilla.org
  2. Send us a link to it using this form

To get the link to your review, click on “permalink” above your review and copy the URL:

Winner Selection

10 finalists will be selected by a panel of judges on or about July 4, 2012. The community will then select the final three winners based on the following criteria:

  • Is your story compelling?
  • How creative is your use of your favorite add-on?
  • Does your review capture the “spirit” of the AMO community?

Voting will end on or about July 18, 2012, and the winners will be announced on or about August 1, 2012.

Judging Panel

  • Ken Saunders | Mozilla Contributor

Ken has been volunteering for Mozilla since 2005 and is the creator and project manager of Access Firefox. He’s also an Add-ons developer, Mozilla Accessibility steward, and a self-proclaimed add-ons junkie, with 56 add-ons enabled (68 installed).

  • Courtney Charet | Mozilla Contributor

Courtney has been a Persona designer and reviewer for over a year. Her Personas adorn the browsers of hundreds of thousands of Firefox users, who love her sparkly, flowing designs.

  • Jorge Villalobos | Add-ons Developer Relations Lead

Jorge is the Add-ons Developer Relations Lead at Mozilla. He manages the add-ons review team, add-on compatibility, and documentation. You’ll usually find him in his native Costa Rica, glued to his laptop and avoiding sunlight.

  • Matej Novak | Mozilla Scribe

Matej is Mozilla’s resident copywriter and all-around word guy. When he’s not working on a website or campaign, you’ll likely find him in a spirited debate about some obscure point of grammar or style—either with someone else or himself.

Prizes

Three winners will each receive:

  • One Android tablet
  • AMO homepage feature that includes your name, photo, and story

Fine Print

  • Up to 3 entries per person per account
  • Open worldwide
  • Entry must be written in English
  • Add-on must be compatible with latest desktop version of Firefox at the time of judging

Without “Web Developer Plugin” I would have never taught myself CSS coding and designing. Great plugin for live changes on the websites. Not only for CSS but its other functions like ruler, guidelines, forms and image options are terrific. Makes my workflow fast and efficient. My dream of web template designing would not have been possible without “Web developer” plugin. Awesome work developer!!

Your instructions are very confusing. Where I do write review on https://addons.mozilla.org/ and how do I link to it?

    1. Amy Tsay wrote on :

Hi William, to write a review, search for the add-on you want to review on https://addons.mozilla.org/. On the add-on’s detail page, scroll down to the Reviews section, and click on the blue Write a Review button on the right hand side. You will get a pop-up form to enter your review. You need an account to write a review, so if you don’t have one or are not logged in, you will be prompted to create an account or log in at this point.

Why is this limited to add-ons that are compatible to Firefox. I know most of Mozilla’s website is Firefox centric, but I think it’s strange that reviews for add-ons specific to Thunderbird or SeaMonkey are excluded from this contest.

Oh well, for example if you saw the ad here: ” https://addons.mozilla.org/en-US/FIREFOX/themes/ ” it is very obvious that it is Firefox-related. If you’d head to some other product’s websites perhaps you could find if they have THEIR OWN promotionals.

      1. Mysha wrote on :

A review of my favourite add-on?

The absolute can’t-be-beat! The Yorzilla add-on saves me every day! Every time I use a feature that the developers of a Mozilla product decided to remove, I say thanks. I feel grateful that every removed feature is always moved to an add-on, so the users can decide for themselves. But even then, it would be tough to keep track of so many changes! Yorzilla is just the thing for me, keeping things as they were. If it weren’t for Yorzilla automatically keeping track of the add-ons to keep things the same, I don’t know what I would do. I’d probably leave Mozilla for good, or rather, Mozilla would be leaving me, trying to dictate where I should be going asif they were a software company. It’s only through Yorzilla that Mozilla stays my zilla! If only there were more OS-es where this add-on would function, it would rule the (Mozilla) world!

I <3 the Web Developer Plug in. It makes my job as a designer a lot easier. It is nice, especially when I get an email from a client: "I want this" based off another designers work…often times clients run through designers like kleenex. I can go in and see how it works and design functionality based off what is already existing of go in an see all the image dimensions. Also it is a cool tool to use when exploring new functionality. It has made my life a happier more efficient place for a while now. Thank you Chris Pederick & Mozilla for building out this wonderful aspect of your tool. Firefox is my go-to browser for the never-ending awesomeness it provides.

Naturally I need to know when I have received mail so I can reply promptly and build up a good rapport with my customers.
With Firefox I feel confident to know that I will receive quality service

    Instructions:

    1) Point your browser to: https://addons.mozilla.org/ and Log in or Register a new account.

    2) Search for the add-on that you use most by typing the name of the add-on in the search bar. —- OR —- Download a new add-on, use it for long enough to understand and take advantage of all of its features.

    3) On the page of which your add-on is located (within https://addons.mozilla.org/) scroll down to where you see reviews.

    4) Type up your review. If it is a good review: Remember to be thorough enough with your review to potentially sway a user to use the add-on. If the add-on needs work, or has issues: Give your use case, make suggestions as to what you would like to see or if you don’t know why you were having an issue let them know. (People invest lots of time into add-ons and would really appreciate the comments or recommendations that genuine users have)

    5) Come back to this page and start with step # 2

    6) After you are done, don’t stop there… you can submit up to 3 entries per person!

    Hi,

I’m not here for winning a tablet, they became affordable to some level these days, and I’m no IT expert that will dive into tech mechanisms and depend on statistics on the add-on site to choose my add-on.
There are at least a couple of tens of important add-ons I admit, very important to the users and their browsing experience, unfortunately I like a number of them, but I will speak based on facts in “the field” if I may, I select the [ANONEMX] add-on for the reason that it is simple to understand, simple to use and effective in experience. Security issues are becoming wider and more and more complicated, hacking is also is becoming easy to learn or at least the “hacking tools” are easy to get or obtain online and offline, so hiding my ID, my geophysical address is important, deleting cookies after staying in a website for some time, putting a level of basic security with one click, can be considered as something that are easy to use even for the elderly people, the same time, this add-on has a limited potential of being useful for teenagers or mentally sick people. This add-on has become one of the necessities beside being the favorite of mine, I can say that you can download Firefox, install this add-on and start working, nothing else is necessary, you can personally arrange bookmarks and passwords, you can even get the browser to stop websites from tracing you, but you feel totally safe with just one add-on. Just ask around, and see if the security issue is Number 1 on the list. I’m anonym, untraceable and can sit back to smoke while taking a short break.

    Thanks,
    Furat

My FireFox has a few add-ons: FlagFox lets me know domain nationality & server location. AdBlock & FlashBlock allow me to load pages faster on my slow single core CPU. If I have to use a 3 button mouse I then I use the FireGestures add-on. Currently I can avoid gestures by using 5 button mouse with the 2 extra buttons set up for page forward & back. That’s the most useful function of FireGestures. Wow I’m really too good for this contest.
