Our friends at Untangle and ACCRC are at it again — taking old computers, refurbishing them and donating them to local schools! They’re hosting a huge Installfest at this week’s LinuxWorld.
Here’s how you can help out:
- Help install GNU/Linux
- Help breakdown old computers to identify reusable parts
- Donate your old computer (ACCRC will have a collection booth and can provide tax deductible receipts)
- Nominate a school that needs computers and is willing to try GNU/Linux desktops
Here’s a recap on why we think the Installfest is cool:
- Helps get computers to children/schools in need
- Helps expose new users to Free & Open Source Software
- Helps divert thousands of pounds of toxic electronic waste from landfills
- And, it’s a great cause to bring the community together and a chance to meet some cool people!
Did I mention that they are giving out some cool Firefox swag to volunteers?!
