Vor ein paar Wochen haben wir das Projekt Build your own Browser (BYOB) und die dazugehörige Website http://byob.mozilla.com online gestellt.
Das Projekt ist noch nicht abgeschlossen (wir arbeiten an der Behebung von Bugs und der Implementierung von neuen Features) und deshalb würden wir uns freuen wenn Ihr BYOB ausprobieren würdet und uns Feedback gibt.
Die BYOB Anwendung generiert Installationdateien fuer die angepasste Version von Firefox.
Einige Features von BYOB sind:
-> Einbinden einer Persona
-> Festlegen/Konfigurieren eigener Lesezeichen
-> Links zu einer Addon-Collection auf Addons.mozilla.org
-> Ist es möglich festzulegen in welchen Localizationen und Platformen das erstellte BYOB Build laufen soll.
Starten mit BYOB ist ganz einfach. Es ist erforderlich sich zuerst unter http://byob.mozilla.com zu registrieren, danach führt die Application durch die Menüs zum erstellen der BYOB Firefox Version. Bevor eine Version eines mit BYOB generierten Builds veröffentlicht wird, erfolgt ein Review der Anpassungen, ob diese den Distribution and Generation Regeln entsprechen. Ist diese Prüfung positiv abgeschlossen, steht die angepasst BYOB Firefox Version im eigenen BYOB Profil zum Download zur Verfügung.
Wie erwähnt ist das BYOB Projekt noch nicht abgeschlossen und wir arbeiten an einer Menge von neuen Features – deshalb würden wir uns freuen wenn Ihr BYOB ausprobieren würdet und uns Feedback sendet.

A few months ago we started a new Project called BYOB (Build Your Own Browser) and the http://byob.mozilla.com Website.
It’s not a finished project yet (we still working on fixing bugs and implement new features), which is why we’d like YOU to try BYOB out and send us comments/give us Feedback !
The Build Your Own Browser (BYOB) application generates installer files for a lightly customized version of Firefox that can be publicly distributed. These customized versions of Firefox are licensed under the Mozilla Public License (MPL), and the installer files and their contents are subject to the restrictions outlined in the Mozilla Trademark Policy
-Customizations you can make with BYOB include:
-a browser skin/theme using a bundled Persona
-pre-populated bookmarks and RSS feeds
-links to a Collection of your recommended add-ons
-multiple locales for Windows, OSX, and Linux
Of course more Features will be implement in the Future !
Also BYOB is not limited to a specific Usergroup like as example Companies. You can create as example a BYOB Build for your local Sportsteam with links to the Team, Team-Forum. As example we think of creating such a BYOB Version for the Mozilla QA Group with helpful links to get started into QA and contributing to the Mozilla Project !
All you need to create a customized version of Firefox is a registration at the http://byob.mozilla.com Website. After you created a Build with BYOB the changes you made will be reviewed and if they match with our Distribution and Generation rules and pass the review, the Installer Files will be generated and Installer Files will be available for download from your BYOB profile. Of course you will be informed about all progress via Email !

As i mentioned the BYOB Project is fairly new and not finished yet and we work on a lot of new cool stuff – but we also depend on your Feedback! Aus diesem Grund haben wir auch die „Open to Choice“ Kampagne u.a. mit der Seite opentochoice.org gestartet.
Wir würden gerne erfahren welchen Browser Du wählst und aus welchem Grund. This week starts the Browser Choice screen and it will give you the opportunity to choose one or more browsers !
At Mozilla we have done a lot to inform the User about their choice, from working with Microsoft to include Firefox in the Browser Choice screen to setting up http://opentochoice.org/ with the Open Letter from Mitchell Baker and John Lilly.

Während der CeBIT vom 2. -6. März 2010 stehen Euch jeden Tag Mitarbeiter und Community Mitglieder fuer Fragen und Antworten rund um Mozilla zur Verfügung. Den Mozilla Stand findet Ihr in Halle 2 – F 34 im Bereich der Open Source Project Lounge.

Ausserdem findet am Samstag von 14:30-15:15 Uhr ein Vortrag von Florian Effenberger und mir zu den Open-Source-Treffen statt, die Openoffice.org und Mozilla gemeinsam u.a. in München veranstalten.

Also this year Mozilla has a booth at the world largest Computer Expo.
Mozilla’s booth will be in the CeBIT Open Source Area – Open Source Project Lounge – Hall 2 Booth F 34. Mozilla is sponsoring the Open Source Project Lounge.
During CeBIT 2010 Mozilla Staff and Community Members will be there to answer all Questions around the Mozilla Universe with as example OpentoChoice.org, Mozilla Labs (Testpilot/Jetpack), Build your own Browser (http://byob.mozilla.com) and of course Thunderbird and Mozilla Firefox.
Also Mozilla takes part with daily sessions in the Open Source Forum (Location: Hall 2, Stand F38) :
Tuesday 02.03.2010, 13:00-13:45 o’clock : Patrick Finch (Mozilla Marketing Europe) – “Why Firefox” – This session will cover some of the key design decisions in Firefox, from interface innovation to customisability, and answers the question, “Why Firefox?”
Wednesday 03.03.2010, 11:30-12:15 o’clock : Kevin Needham (Mozilla Channel I/O) – “Customizing Firefox with Build Your Own Browser” – Build Your Own Browser is a pilot application intended to simplify the process of creating a customized Mozilla browser (including Firefox) for distribution. During his talk, Kev Needham will provide an overview of browser customization and BYOB, why Mozilla thinks it’s an important tool for the community, and what it will evolve into in the coming months.
Thursday 04.03.2010, 12:30-13:15 o’clock : Chris Hofmann (Mozilla Director Special Projects) – ” The future of innovation in the browser – Studies, experiments, prototypes, and projects going on a labs.mozilla.com” – The talk will explore Mozilla’s approach to research and innovating the browser and how you can participate in shaping the browser of the future. Current labs research projects including Weave, Jetpack, Test Pilot and a variety of others will be explored.
