Tell us about your favorite add-ons for a chance to win one of three Android tablets!

Update: The winners have been chosen!

In 200 words or less, tell us how your favorite Firefox Add-on makes your day more productive, saves you money, or just makes you happy. A special panel of judges will pick 10 finalists, and the AMO community will pick 3 winners. Each winner will receive an Android tablet and be featured on the addons.mozilla.org homepage!

Contest period: April 24, 2012 – June 24, 2012

How to Enter

To enter the contest:

  1. Write a review of your favorite add-on at https://addons.mozilla.org
  2. Send us a link to it using this form

To get the link to your review, click on “permalink” above your review and copy the URL:

Winner Selection

10 finalists will be selected by a panel of judges on or about July 4, 2012. The community will then select the final three winners based on the following criteria:

  • Is your story compelling?
  • How creative is your use of your favorite add-on?
  • Does your review capture the “spirit” of the AMO community?

Voting will end on or about July 18, 2012, and the winners will be announced on or about August 1, 2012.

Judging Panel

  • Ken Saunders | Mozilla Contributor

Ken has been volunteering for Mozilla since 2005 and is the creator and project manager of Access Firefox. He’s also an Add-ons developer, Mozilla Accessibility steward, and a self-proclaimed add-ons junkie, with 56 add-ons enabled (68 installed).

  • Courtney Charet | Mozilla Contributor

Courtney has been a Persona designer and reviewer for over a year. Her Personas adorn the browsers of hundreds of thousands of Firefox users, who love her sparkly, flowing designs.

  • Jorge Villalobos | Add-ons Developer Relations Lead

Jorge is the Add-ons Developer Relations Lead at Mozilla. He manages the add-ons review team, add-on compatibility, and documentation. You’ll usually find him in his native Costa Rica, glued to his laptop and avoiding sunlight.

  • Matej Novak | Mozilla Scribe

Matej is Mozilla’s resident copywriter and all-around word guy. When he’s not working on a website or campaign, you’ll likely find him in a spirited debate about some obscure point of grammar or style—either with someone else or himself.

Three winners will each receive:

  • One Android tablet
  • AMO homepage feature that includes your name, photo, and story

Fine Print

  • Up to 3 entries per person per account
  • Open worldwide

    Hi,

I’m using a great number of PC’s during a typical day, so it makes sense for me to use the following addons:
    – Ad Block: clean, fast, clutter free web browsing. Best thing since the internet&firefox where invented.
    – Xmarks – i use this to keep my extensive bookmark collection synched across all PCs. I delete and add bookmarks like crazy, all day long.
    – Last Pass – it’s hard to remember my user/passwords from all accounts, given the fact that i have over 200 of them all across the net…
I also use some form of flash-downloader to scoop stuff from the internet. This is not a add-on, it’s built into Firefox itself but it’s absolutely awesome: spell checker – I do have a very rich digital life and the obvious language for that life is undoubtedly English. Given that and the fact that I’m not a natively English speaker, i need “walking sticks” to help me make some sense when writing in English. The Firefox spell-checker is just that great set of walking sticks.

So basically these are all great, simple and focused addons that to a great deal.

Great many thanks for the Firefox and Firefox add-on developers. You are doing a great job, and we notice!

    Have a good day.

    FIREBUG… its a life saver.

Just imagine the agony of a web-designer when at 6 in the evening his boss walks upto him and says.. the design he had worked so hard for a month ‘lacks tang’.. open firebug add few colors on the runtime and wollah!! you have a tangy design APPROVED.

Imagine the agony of a coder who writes code and the ajax call is misfiring.. the way to debug it.. add painful alerts, and on a live environment not doable.. but here come the superhero (a.k.a Firebug) open net, see xhr edit and fix script runtime.

And its performance is way better than other browser plugins

It also helps me do some ‘nasty’ stuff to ‘not so secure’ sites and my ‘not so geeky’ friends call me magician 😉

I think the best plugin so far is firebug. Firebug gives you the possibility to find out js errors, test out some css/html, debug and a lot of other useful things that are amazing. But in the other side the new inspect item, that is native provided with firefox, is really effecient, and it’s what im using right now. Firefox+firebug is the way to follow for any web developer.

    1. Olivier wrote on :

      Well Hajar,
it exist actually an app. that can be installed directly on your desktop menu bar,
(at least for Mac) so called Menu Tap Pro from Fiplab ltd.
So once you click over its little icon on the top menu bar of the system,
It pops-up a window sized as a mobile screen, to view your FB activities and more.
at the Top corner right of this icon, indicates in Red Messages in standby.
and the icon itself blinks to inform you about some other activities.
All FB concentrate in a single icon.
      it works.
But may be you do not have a Mac. (I do not know if the app is for PC too)

There are so many great add-on’s, I FOUND IT DIFFICULT TO CHOOSE JUST ONE. So I would suggest the best add-on has to be the Yahoo toolbar bacause it brings other appts available with just one click. Whether it be facebook, ebay, mail, translations, notes, calendar, address book, the weather or finacial outlook, it is all there at the top of Mozilla web browser.
The toolbar facilitates ease of use, immediate identification of the program one needs and the possibility of syncing the toolbar and appts across other computers, whatever the operating system; be it Linux, Microsoft or Mac.
Adding an Appt is simplicity itself, or if you wish to be more adventures you can add your own appt from a link.
So in summary, the Yahoo toolbar add-on helps one work more speedily, productively, brings together a whole world of appts, which are targeted at what you need specificly. It makes working with Firefox a joy, no matter if your at work, at your home PC or Tablet. I do not know of another add-on that does more.
