We had several posts to the mailing list last week covering some good information about Android, Java and code maintenance. Sriram has a post on setImageBitmap(null) being evil. Richard walks through his investigation of a memory issue he fixed. He also started a discussion about some best practices.

Topics for This Week

Favicon Work Landed

Chris Kitching’s major overhaul of the favicon system landed (see bug 914296). We found a few regressions, but keeping looking. This is a Fx27 feature. Any bugs that were fixed by the overhaul, but are also needed on Fx26 need other less risky patches.

RTL Work

The group of students working on RTL have been making some progress. A patch is up for changing our AndroidManifest.xml to advertise that we want to use RTL (see bug 924418). More layout and code patches are needed before we land anything though.

Home Page Status

We triaged the Fx26 tracking Home page bugs on Tuesday. The remaining bugs appear to have owners and patches are in progress. There are a few performance bugs, one of which (bug 916099) will need some attention. The Eideticker regression (bug 908225) might be fixed today.

The front-end team started looking into ways to improve the way we write UI (Robocop) tests. Goals include: Providing building blocks to make it easier to write tests, Find ways to improve reliability of tests and update to additional frameworks so test can be split into UI and non-UI parts. GeckoView Status

Shane Tully and Brad Lassey have been working on patches, and landing a few. We are in a much better place and Finkle has picked up the ball a bit to propose some embedding interfaces and APIs.     • got a working patch for bug 907754 to fix the initial zoom in subframes in the B2G browser, needs more testing and review
    • worked with irving to investigate the memory regression in bug 906747
    • filed bug 909877 and dependencies to turn on APZC in all of gaia. some WIP patches are attached to the dependency tree
