Press & Public Reactions

Questions, Comments and Highlights

  • L10n (Axel)
    • l10n is good for Firefox 5, Desktop and Mobile.
    • This took a few bold steps for both Desktop and Mobile. The impact is pretty contained on desktop, though for mobile, the tougher visual constraints on mobile make the call tougher. But we should be good.
    • Good news is that Serbian is back on the desktop, so the ADUs there get not only a secure version, but also one that finally got all the garbage fixed that snuck in due to bad interactions with tools.
    • 83 localizations for desktop, same as in 4.0. Luckily, we didn’t loos any. Sadly, we didn’t manage to take any new ones either, sorry to those in the queue.
    • 14 localizations in the multi-locale build on Android, Norwegian is back in. 31 localizations are in single-locale builds for maemo.
  • Releng (catlee)
    • Ok to build 5.0 final with non-rc filenames? For previous .0 releases we’ve built e.g. 4.0rc1, 4.0rc2 and then renamed to the final name.
      • How does this interact with mirrors? – Christian
    • Do we need index.html files on the mirrors to hide the files before releasing?
    • Where should 5.0 beta users be updated to?
    • Should 4.0 updates to 5.0 be automatic, or major updates?
      • Current plan is automatic, watching add-on compat closely
  • Will Firefox 5 be released on June 21 or will it get built on that day and then released sometime after?
    • Current plan is to release on the 21st, which is why we are trying to build our content-complete build today. This can change if issues come up during the next week or so of course
  • Final “go/nogo” decision for Firefox5.0b4 (FF5.0b4 is already built and tested)
    • “ship Firefox5.0b4 while we figure out FF5.0b5” vs “drop Firefox5.0b4 because Firefox5.0b5 is almost ready”. (was monday, was tuesday 2pm, was wednesday 9am)
    • We’re canning it and moving forward with FF5b5

Actions this week

  • Daniel and Myk will investigate the viability of auto-updating current SDK-based add-ons to 1.0 final
  • Asa to connect with Dan Horner and Dave Mason for featured SDK-based, and builder-based add-ons in Firefox 5.
  • Christian is organizing a meeting to discuss release mechanics options (only mozilla.com, automatic update, major update, etc)
