    • overall rates look OK for going to beta

    • Current crash rates match what we had in 45 RC week.
    • GFX bug 1189715 is fixed in 46.0b11 \o/
    • AsyncShutdown crashes, mostly sanitize bug 1258350, are 2.2% of 46.0b11 data
      • Taking a last minute patch in bug 1258354 that may help, at least with diagnosis.
    • HTTP shutdownhangs (bug 1158189 and bug 1263199) are 3.4%
    • bug 1256517 (DrawQuad) is 0.7% and has a patch requested for uplift to 47

Release

Schedule Update

  • Thursday/Friday: 46.0b11 desktop build and release.
  • Monday: beta->release merge and RC build.

Add-ons

  • Latest Flash plugin blocks are now live (bug 1263476).
  • Requesting uplift of bug 1245956 to ESR 45.

Stability

Aurora

  • Overall rate: 1.7 – browser: 1.0, content: 0.7 – yellow (target: 1.5)
  • 3rd-party (eOppMonitor.dll) crash bug 1229252 is 1.2%

Beta

  • Overall rate: 1.2 – yellow (target: 1.0)
  • AsyncShutdown crashes (main sanitize bug 1258350) are 2.3% of b10 data. Apparently needs bug 1258354 for diagnosis – but we may be too late in the beta cycle to even still diagnose that 🙁
  • gfx crash bug 1189715 is 1.2% with new signature

Release

  • Overall rate: 0.99 – yellow (target: 0.95)
  • Flash game/ad crashes of bug 1252152 are still ongoing, though at lower level – patch in the bug seems to have helped on nightly, we may want to uplift to 47 for sure, possibly to 46.
  • Trusteer bug 1255026 on Mac (trf.dylib@0x1c3a7) ?
    • This is 70% on startup and therefore making it the #3 Top Crash Score on 45.0.2 even though it’s a Mac-only signature
  • noticeable spike in crashes for https://bugzilla.mozilla.org/show_bug.cgi?id=1264504 in 45.0.2 – overall only 0.3% of 45.0.2 crashes so far but it was 0 in 45.0.1

Mobile

  • Android looks good on all channels other than Nightly.
    • Current release has better rates than previous, current beta data may be slightly better than previous, still some room on both to match 41 data though
    • Aurora data is very flaky but seem to be at least in same area as previous train, and not worse.

QE

For any crash fix landing on beta 11, I would like help looking at crash-stats early Monday morning to evaluate if the patches can stay or if we need to back out. Please comment in the bugs with an update from crash-stats. n-i Liz if you see a crash fix that gets worse or just stays the same – thanks!

  • [Andrei] We’ll try to help out here and monitor crashes.
  • affects all channels: system addon issue https://bugzilla.mozilla.org/show_bug.cgi?id=1264383
  • Which addons does this affect? How bad is this problem?
  • [Jorge] Potentially affects hundreds of add-ons, since TabSelect is a very commonly-used event. As I understand it, the problem is that the event listener isn’t being removed correctly, which is a relatively minor problem (a little bit of memory being used unnecessarily, and possibly some JS errors in the console). It’s unlikely to break add-ons.

Aurora / Dev Edition

  • [Bogdan][per-monitor DPI] I found a new issue that could block the release of the feature in beta 47, it breaks the layout of Firefox just by dragging FF from one screen to another. Developer (Jonathan Kew) is aware of it, talked with him on IRC.

https://bugzilla.mozilla.org/show_bug.cgi?id=1264193

  • [Camelia][Synced Tabs Sidebar] The feature looks pretty good. There were 4 important issues: 2 of them are fixed for Desktop side(bug 1250866, bug 1250531), one is fixed on Nightly and need uplift on Aurora (bug 1250085) and the last one is no longer a blocker because is not related to Synced Tabs Sidebar (bug 1252058)
    • there still are some issues which are fixed only on Nightly and a few new issues. None of them is critical/major.

Beta

  • [desktop] We’re in the process of signing off Pocket System Add-on for pre-release, our _main concern_ at this point is https://bugzil.la/1263599

Mobile

  • [Mihai] Signed-off Fennec 45.0.2
  • Signed-off Fennec 46 Beta 10

RelEng

  • Release build promotion for 46.0
    • ready for QA deadline: Wed (Apr-20) European morning?

Schedule Update

  • Best to push the schedule back for 46. beta->release merge, Apr 18 Merge: Apr 25 Release: Apr 26
    • We missed nearly 3 betas (with beta 1 only being for en-US). Beta 3, beta 6 skipped, beta 7 late (released yesterday)
    • Firefox 47 still planned to release on June 7.
  • The schedule allowed for a 7 week cycle between 46 and 47 release. Changing that to 6 weeks for 47.
  • This helps l10n as well for 46 (delayed by the infrastructure issues last week)
  • more time to iron out any issues with build promotion
  • more time to land crash fixes and react to beta 7/8 changes
  • Better crash data with e10s disabled (experiment cut-off didn’t land till beta 8)
  • If we delay 46, we will do a 45.0.2 (probably tomorrow)
    • Discussed about cancelling it because only 2 weeks away from the release but as we are delaying 46 …
    • A top crash
    • Some web compat issues
    • No single drivers but all combined…
Bug 1254980 - Copy-pasting selected HTML from Firefox to a new Thunderbird message (using TB 38) or to BlueGriffon is broken as of Firefox 45
Bug 1257861 - Firefox 45 fails to send Cookie header with XHR post requests done from a web worker when third-party cookies are blocked
Bug 1260961 - Legitimate CORS requests are blocked by Firefox 45.0.1
    Bug 1258562 -       Crash in dom::MediaSource::Duration - top crash
Bug 1256442 - Ship 1.1.x of the Loop system add-on to the release population
Bug 1258650 - Yahoo finance chart comparison "overlays" not displayed properly because of bad interaction with scaled clip and mask combo
Bug 1259482 - Product image not changing upon selection in Woocommerce/Wordpress

Stability

Aurora

Overall rate: 2.5 – browser: 1.0, content: 1.5 – red

  • signatures of bug 1259699 are the top 3, fix uplifted yesterday

Beta

Overall rate: 1.3 – browser: 1.1, content: 0.2 – red. Not worse than beta 5, anyway (these numbers are still mostly about b5 and earlier)

  • Looks like e10s is still on for a significant amount of people, is there still an ongoing experiment? Yes, it turns off in beta 8
  • bug 1246108 (wasapi_stream_start) is fixed in b7
  • AsyncShutdown crashes are 1.9% of early b7 data
  • bug 1189715 (gfxContext::gfxContext, #6 top crash in b7, 1.4%) still happening in beta 8 although we though we had a fix in bug 1259810

Release

Overall rate: 1.0 – yellow

  • Trusteer crash bug 1255026 definitely decreasing on Windows, but the OS X signature continues to be high #16 or so on release? How bad is bad?
  • Flash game crash bug 1252152 has decreased noticeably last week

QE

Beta

  • 1262149 – Firefox users with OS X 10.11 and QuickTime 7.7.3 cannot playback video content requiring this video player and are prompted to use Safari instead. (all branches – not just beta)
  • I noticed with OS X 10.11, each time I restart (or maybe reboot) I am prompted to make Safari my default browser now (or later) There is no option to say “never ask me again”.

Roundtable

inquiry from sumo: will we go ahead with the plan to deprecate support for os x 10.6-10.8 and migrate those users to esr 45.1.0 instead of 46?
https://bugzilla.mozilla.org/show_bug.cgi?id=1255589

Followup on thread about stub install alerting: who is the first line on-call for release issues?

  • liz to ask catlee and lawrence about this. relman, or releng?

Tracked bugs with no owners! Let’s triage on Tuesday since these can potentially block release.

  • [Andrei] Mid-aurora feature sign offs are in progress, we should have test reports ready by next Monday (looking good so far).

Beta

  • [Andrei] 46.0b4-build2 successfully signed off.

  • [Andrei] We’ve coordinated with :sphilp on testing FxA more thoroughly, starting with the password reset flows.
  • [Andrei] Apart from the regular, periodical tests we’re running each beta cycle for stub installers, migration and webrtc, we’re also going to have a closer look at the browser’s UI on Ubuntu, following the switch to gtk3.
  • [Andrei] We’re holding a Testday for 46 Beta 7 next Friday – http://tinyurl.com/hpz4wgt.
  • https://bugzilla.mozilla.org/show_bug.cgi?id=1246088 issues with dev tools inspector in youtube videos . ship this in 46? or should it be a blocker?

Mobile

  • [mobile] work as usual
  • nexus 9 crash, we have a fix

QE

Nightly

  • [Mihai]]Responsive Design Mode] – Just a quick update here. I spoke with Marco and the milestone moved to Fx52.

Aurora / Dev Edition

  • [Andrei] “Per monitor DPI settings” (http://bugzil.la/890156) pre-aurora feature sign off is in progress, should be finished early tomorrow. There were several new issues found affecting this feature and while they’re still pending assessment from the development team, we’re inclined to say it’s not ready for Aurora in its current state. (Are the new issues worse than shipping without the improvements we get?)
  • [Andrei] We’re currently working on signing off Developer Edition 47 as well — we’ll have a final test report by the end of tomorrow.

Beta

  • [Andrei] 46 Beta 1 (build 8) is green from QE’s perspective.
    • We have issues running the update tests, sounds like a mozmill problem
  • [Cornel] [WebVR] feature disabled in beta due to instability (crash #1239055)

Mobile

  • [Mihai] We’ve signed off Firefox 46 Beta 1
  • We’re currently testing Aurora 47, we will send the final sign off tomorrow afternoon EET
