  • ESR 38.6.0 pushed to cdntest and nearly ready for release, sec advisories ready. Should go out within the hour.

Stability

Aurora / Dev Edition

  • (45) Overall rate: 1.8 – browser 1.0, content 0.8 – yellow
  • Still dominated by the same bugs as in the recent weeks, mostly e10s which will only affect the experiment population in 45 beta

(46) We had a crash spike on Nightly on the weekend but has been fixed in yesterday’s data already (backout) – right now, no crashes known that need fxing before updates open

Beta

  • (44) Overall rate: 1.1 – yellow
  • bug 1242393 (Trusteer Rapport) is 2.8% of all RC3 crashes (and #4 Top Crash Score)

  • bug 1222933 (Ad Muncher) is #1 Top Crash Score

Mobile

  • Android 44.0b11 looks OK, 3.1 on weekend, 2.8-2.9 on Friday/Monday – that puts us in the same area as 43 beta.
    • Overall (multi-beta) crash rates show a similar picture, putting yesterday just inside the yellow area.

  • Bug 584447 Crash in [@ nsGlobalWindow::SetDocShell ] – New Startup crash which was resolved fixed 5 years back so we will file a bug to track the new regression.

Beta

  • Bug 1222800 – a11y startup crash regression in 43 (#5 top crash score), help needed by devs in the bug, maybe possible to back out the regressing changes this cycle…?

noticable decline of two graphics related top crashes apparently independent of our actions:

  • fixes for 2 top crashes over the last weeks landed in beta 8 – Bug 1226400 (mozilla::dom::FontFaceSet::Load) & Bug 1200021 (mozilla::layers::ContentClientDoubleBuffered::FinalizeFrame) – both seem to be working well, no new reports \o/

^^ palindrome bug!

RelEng

need signoff on play store availablilty for fennec beta8 before starting beta9
unless there is not a fennec beta9 today

Marketing/Communications

Requesting we pull some release notes for 43/44

   SHA-2
Improved support for legacy-encoded Traditional Chinese pages (Big5, including HKSCS)
   WebRTC streaming on multiple monitors
   GTK3 integration (GNU/Linux only)
  • no e10s by default in 44. Experiment with 7.5% of the population

User Advocacy

Pulled desktop Heartbeat en-* Mobile promotion after complaints from users that clear localstore that they were seeing it multiple times. This appears to primarily be due to a few privacy addons.
Solutions being explored: 1) Writing code to check that localstore hasn’t been cleared in X sessions, 2) Storing state in Firefox itself (needs eng resources / advisement). Either way any large HB runs seem on hold for now.
If anyone has a good method for estimating scope of regularly cleared localstores, it would help inform our future decisions here.

Stability

Aurora

  • Overall rate: 2.5 – browser: 1.5, content: 1.0 – red, slightly lower than last week
    • largest crashes are with a11y+e10s, we need to make sure to exclude that audience from beta experiments (a patch for that is in bug 1226487)
    • patches also coming to not activate e10s on dev edition when a11y has been activated recently (bug 1198459)
  • bug 1219529 is >1% of overall crashes, has a patch verified on nightly and an uplift request
  • bug 1218032 (nsContentIterator::NextNode) is still very visible in stats, but not happening with builds of Nov 18 or newer due to backout in bug 1224101

Beta

  • Overall rate: 1.1 – yellow, similar to last week
  • bug 1226400 (dom::FontFaceSet::Load) is 2% of 43.0b5 data and #2 Top Crash Score – this is happening across channels, platforms and even Android.
  • bug 1222933 (mostly Ad Muncher) is 1.5% and #1 Top Crash Score
  • bug 1222819 (Orbit Downloader) is #3 Top Crash Score
  • bug 1227221 (Flash beta 20 hangs) has been causing the Flash hang rate on beta to roughly double, Adobe says they found the issue are are releasing a newer beta today – we’ll watch data as they plan to ship Flash 20 very soon.

Release

  • Overall rate: 0.9 – green
  • bug 1222933 (mostly Ad Muncher) is #1 Top Crash Score
  • bug 1226400 (dom::FontFaceSet::Load) is 1% of 42.0 data (and rising)
  • bug 1224549 (Java plugin hangs) increased the overall count of plugin hangs on release by ~25% and pushes Java users to use older, insecure Firefox versions
  • bug 1221448 (Java plugin crash) is still a significant portion of plugin crashes overall and makes lives suck for Java users, but is fixed in the very newest Java 8 build, according to both Oracle and our crash data. (https://bugzilla.mozilla.org/show_bug.cgi?id=1221448#c32)
