Agenda

  • Who’s taking minutes? -> TBD
  • Nominees for Friends of the Fish Tank:
    • TBD

Action Items

(who needs to do what that hasn’t been recorded in a bug)
We should assign people to the open items.

NEW

OPEN

  • bug 1121281 tracks the RelEng automation migration off CVS. Currently two option patches awaiting for Callek’s decision. Once settled, ewong will follow up with RelEng patches based on that decision.

CLOSED

  • bug 1150082 SeaMonkey Donation Page is using the PayPal all or nothing version, instead of the usual either/or one. Mcsmurf is investigating.

Status of the SeaMonkey Buildbot Master and Tree

  • Notes:
    • Windows nightly trunk builds are unavailable due to various bugs such as bug 1092468 and bug 1108970. Migrating our Windows builders to Win2008 and our compiler toolchain to VS2013 would likely solve this and other bustages.
    • Ratty has put up some win32 contributed builds on http://seamonkey.callek.net/contrib/.
    • There are also some upcoming changes to L10n build system in Q1 2015 (bug 1107635).
    • Buildmaster is up and running, and produces en-US builds, see 9/16 meeting’s Friends of the Fish Tank. Builds and langpacks in 18 languages including en-US are available unofficially thanks to A.Kalla.
    • bug 1083689 Langpacks aren’t updated when auto-updating SeaMonkey because they aren’t uploaded to AMO. The solution requires changes in SeaMonkey RelEng (and possibly AMO).
    • For various reasons we don’t have a working SeaMonkey Treeherder.
    • wrt bug 1155011, we already have a Soccoro token. The patches on bug 1155013 require approval and then pushed and the work-around patches backed out.
  • [7th July 2015]
    • All trees:
      • Windows platform still busted due to needing Win2008R2 installed.
      • We have a loaner which ewong is working on (see blog for more information).
    • comm-aurora:
      • All platforms: Busted due to bug 1167346, but fix has been already pushed.
  • See RelEng page for the RelEng status history.

Release Train

SeaMonkey 2.35 Release

  • We plan to release SeaMonkey 2.35 asap in July.
    • For windows builds, we have a loaner win machine from Mozilla for us (i.e. ewong) to do manual window builds.

[ewong:]

  • I have (albeit inconsistently) generated Nightly Win32 trunk builds (2.39a1) and have uploaded them to http://ftp.mozilla.org/pub/mozilla.org/seamonkey/nightly/latest-comm-central-trunk.
  • bug 1177634 prevented me from building on the loaner. The patch attached to that bug is hot-patched to the source prior to the build. (Since this is a ‘building’ issue and not an application code issue, it shouldn’t affect running SeaMonkey.)
  • Complete/partial snippets are not available as I’m trying to figure ’em out.
  • After having done it for a day, the windows builds were broken by bug 1180065 and bug 1180356.
    • The patch attached to bug 1180065 was manually applied to the buildbotmaster, so it’s working now (but needs to be reviewed and pushed to the buildbotcustom repo),
    • bug 1180356 is fixed.
  • Trying to refactor the process to also include the l10n repack steps (which I’m still trying to figure out as I go along).

IN PROGRESS (Ratty):

  • bug 1177041 (SM2.35-Uplift) Bugs / Patches to be uplifted to comm-release for SeaMonkey 2.35 (and dependencies).
  • bug 1177785 (SM2.35-mozilla-release-Uplift) Bugs / Patches to be uplifted to mozilla-release relbranch for SeaMonkey 2.35 (and dependencies).
  • bug 1172917 Build SeaMonkey 2.35 with NSS 3.19.1+ to include fix for bug 1138554.
  • bug 1177769 Changes needed for Building SeaMonkey 2.35 with Chatzilla.
  • bug 1177773 Changes needed for Building SeaMonkey 2.35 with DOM Inspector.
  • Created release branches on mozilla-release/mozilla-esr38 (bug 1179808) and comm-release (bug 1180911.

TO DO:

  • Uplift the following patches, possibly more:
    • bug 1165732 Block WARP when using the built-in VGA driver (Firefox running very slow on Windows starting with version 38 due to hardware acceleration).
    • bug 1169996 Changing the spell check language in the message subject of a recycled message via right-click changes the composition language preference.
    • Need to check that the following bug 1166924 bug 1167356 bug 1171540 bug 1172397 bug 1172076 are fixed on what ever branch we use.
  • Alternatively use the existing THUNDERBIRD_38_VERBRANCH on mozilla-esr38, recently merged to match 31.1.0 ESR fixes. This should contain all the SM2.35-mozilla-release-Uplift Bugs / Patches which saves us some work.
  • Candidate for a corresponding comm-esr38 release branch is GECKO3810esr_2015070616_RELBRANCH
  • [Ratty] Are we basing our 2.35 release on mozilla-38.0.x or mozilla-38.1.x? Notes that mozilla-release is now at FIREFOX_39_0_BUILD3 (relbranch comes off FIREFOX_RELEASE_38_END).

Extensions and Plugins Compatibility Tracking

  • See Basics page. Please only list current changes here.
  • Addon Compatibility Listings
  • We are looking for a new place to host the Addon Compatibility Listings for the Add-on Converter in order to make it easy to maintain and to serve as the main database for the AMO browsing extension in the future. The details are in this post.
  • Firefox & Thunderbird Add-on Converter for SeaMonkey http://addonconverter.fotokraina.com/
This tool goes a little further beyond simply modifying install.rdf – it also identifies a few more other things in the code that are Firefox or Thunderbird specific and attempts to change them. Of course, not all extensions can be ported so easily to SeaMonkey since there’s only so much an automated tool like that can do.
    • Lemon Juice continues to improve his already impressive Addon Converter. The source is now available on GitHub [1].
    • looking for a better(?) home for extension-converter pages, along with a way to track successful and conversion-failed add-ons, and respective integration into SeaMonkey by add-on or manager overlay [2], bug 1145026.
    • Rainer Bielefeld together with other community members have been updating the list of Firefox addons that have been successfully converted by the Addon Converter.
    • Ratty filed bug 1130390 to add a link on seamonkey-projects.org to the Firefox & Thunderbird Add-on Converter for SeaMonkey.
  • The Thunderbird team is now shipping Lightning with Thunderbird. IanN will work on shipping lightning too. Related bugs:
    • bug 516026 Integrate Lightning Into SeaMonkey by Default and Ship SeaMonkey with Lightning Enabled
    • bug 1130854 Package Lightning with Thunderbird for c-c and c-a builds.
    • bug 1113183 Integrate Lightning Into Thunderbird by Default.
    • bug 1130852 Add opt-in dialog to promote Calendar integration [Thunderbird].
  • Proposed replacement for Venkman for shipping with SeaMonkey: Tiny JavaScript Debugger. TinyJSD is a JavaScript debugger for privileged code running Mozilla products like Firefox, Thunderbird, SeaMonkey. It serves to debug the application as well as extensions written in JavaScript.
    • IanN filed bug 1133723 Investigate options for replacing Venkman with the TinyJSDebugger.

  • SeaMonkey 2.35 Release Notes (yet to come)
  • Mozilla-central bugs that affect us:
    • Current 38.0-branch releases are subject to Logjam weak-encryption downgrade attack [3] due to security.ssl3.dhe_rsa_aes_128_sha and security.ssl3.dhe_rsa_aes_256_sha being enabled by default
      • bug 1138554 fixed in NSS 3.19.1, uplifted to branches for 39.0+ with bug 1166031, and verified fixed for SM 2.36
      • Can 2.35 ship with NSS 3.19.1? [4]
        • bug 1172917 filed to explore the options, possibly building this version from mozilla-esr38 instead of mozilla-release.
  • release branches have been established per bug 1179808 to proceed from either mozilla-release (FIREFOX_RELEASE_38_END) or mozilla-esr38 (THUNDERBIRD_38_VERBRANCH).

2.Next

  • Stalled. Needs a kick.
    • bug 815954 Click-to-Play: Port bug 812562 (click-to-play blocklisted plugins: reshow urlbar notification as with normal click-to-play).
    • bug 476108 GetShortPathNameW fails under some NTFS junctions [patchlove].
  • Current breakages:
  • Mozilla-central bugs that affect us:
    • Firefox is currently changing styles of several Toolkit pages
      • already affected: config.xul for about:config, bug 1125636
      • Toolkit meta bug for about:* pages: bug 1097111 – SeaMonkey tracking in bug 1133743
      • Modern may need updating as IDs are changing, Default needs forking if we want to roll back to previous styles
      • Fallout thus far: bug 1133380 about:privatebrowsing (Default), bug 1133582 about:config (Modern)
      • further work to separate function from style in CSS for about:privatebrowsing in bug 1178008 (3rd-party themes)
    • Our front end Sync UI needs to be updated as the old backend is going away in Gecko/Firefox 31. See: New Firefox Sync has landed in Firefox Nightly. Tracked in:
      • bug 998807 Sync account creation or device pairing fails with exception in BrowserIDManager.
      • bug 1003434 Add support for about:sync-progress.
      • SeaMonkey won’t be allowed to use the Firefox Sync 1.5 servers. Ewong has set up a FxA 1.5 server and is looking into hosting our own FxAccounts server on a community machine or VPS.
    • A lot of these bugs are due to mozilla-central switching from synchronous APIs to Asynchronous APIs.
    • bug 566746 (asyncFormHistory) Form history should use asynchronous storage API. Tracked in:
      • bug 912031 Use Asynchronous FormHistory.jsm in place of nsIFormHistory2 in Suite.
    • bug 769764 move proxy resolution to separate thread and remove sync api. Tracked in:
      • MailNews bug 791645 Rewrite calls to synchronous nsIProtocolProxyService::DeprecatedBlockingResolve with Async code before DeprecatedBlockingResolve disappears as well.
    • The C++ downloads manager backend nsIDownloadManager is being decommissioned. Firefox and Thunderbird have migrated to jsdownloads.
    • bug 825588 Asynchronous JavaScript API for downloads and bug 851471 Decommission nsIDownloadManager. Tracked in:
      • bug 888915 Move SeaMonkey to the new JavaScript API for downloads when nsIDownloadManager is decommissioned. Neil has a WIP patch on hand.
    • Removal of SSL 3.0 support after POODLE Attack with 2.36, see bug 1106470.
      • bug 1137991 has removed SSL 3.0 checkbox from SSL preferences
      • bug 1149581 covers removal of the related strings
      • Firefox has proceeded with the removal in 39.0 given that Chrome goes the same way [5]
    • We’ve picked up he default for security.tls.version.min from Mozilla Core, but security.tls.version.fallback-limit is new. So we need to consider adding the latter to our preferences UI (bug 1123673).
      • Currently unclear whether or not this should be done after bug 1084025 disable insecure TLS version fallback entirely by default [6]
      • alternative proposal is to make whitelist for acceptable fallback sites available in the UI, which seems to make more sense.

Feature List, Planning

With Firefox announcing that XUL/XBL will be removed in the next couple of years probably, what is SM’s long-term plan to be able to maintain its UI? Discuss.

Bug statistics for the last two (full) weeks: 21 new, 9 fixed, 13 triaged.

  • Medium triaging effort, lower than average number of new bugs filed.
  • IanN thinks it would be useful to remind people on the newsgroups / forums that they can contribute by triaging. Tonymec will post a reminder to newsgroups / forums. See bug 1092632 (Sm_tri_HowTo) Document how to triage SeaMonkey bugs.
    • The draft is currently at https://wiki.mozilla.org/User:Tonymec/Triage_HowTo
    • Progress is stalled due to hardware/firmware problems with Tonymec’s current computer. Current ETA for newer computer is after Easter but this is a rough estimate. Anyone with a wikimoz account can edit the page (and is welcome to). — Tonymec (talk) 17:35, 21 January 2015 (PST)

    • For windows builds, we have a loaner win machine from Mozilla for us (i.e. ewong) to do manual window builds.
      • [ewong:] doing the buildbot steps manually on a Windows machine is proving to be a bit more involved as there are bits missing(these bits are normally created within the buildmaster so manually creating these bits is slow going) and it doesn’t help that I’ve been swamped elsewhere.

      • Firefox will likely proceed with the removal in 39.0 given that Chrome goes the same way [5]
    • We’ve picked up he default for security.tls.version.min from Mozilla Core, but security.tls.version.fallback-limit is new.

Bug statistics for the last two (full) weeks: 16 new, 3 fixed, 14 triaged.

Neil

I didn’t get much done over the last fortnight because I was too busy with work and other stuff. Hopefully I can catch up over the next couple of months.
Still needs uplift(s):

  • bug 1170002 Display name with comma does not get properly quoted in From field.
  • bug 1165316 Replace Livemark callback function usage.

Still hoping for feedback:

  • bug 888915 Convert SeaMonkey Downloads Manager to Downloads.jsm

Still waiting for review:

Ratty

  • bug 1176055 Re-implement keyword.URL (search from the locationbar) unsync it from the default search engine.

Waiting on check-in on CLOSED TREE:

  • bug 1040910 Support XHTML in feed titles.
  • bug 1158496 JavaScript error: …/nsSuiteGlue.js, line 291: NS_NOINTERFACE: Component returned failure code: 0x80004002 (NS_NOINTERFACE) [nsIWebProgress.DOMWindow].

Needs uplift to comm-aurora:

  • bug 1163395 Port bug 967494 to SeaMonkey (Preference Composition/Spelling/Language is ignored, and changing spellcheck language in one composition window affects all open and new compositions).

  • Packaging updates.
  • Safe Browsing updates.
  • According to John-Galt the reason we have a blank space in the discovery pane of the addons manager is that our carousel is empty. So we can fill it with links to the addon converter etc (we may need admin access). Need to ask Mossop who in Firefox land is responsible for updating their Carousel and what the procedure is.

Other stuff:

  • Did some reviews and approvals.
  • Bug triage and Bug discussions.

SeaMonkey Meeting Details

9-June-2015

SeaMonkey: 2015-06-09

Filed under: Posts — Tags: — Jesper Kristensen @ 11:00 pm

Agenda

  • Who’s taking minutes? -> TBD
  • Nominees for Friends of the Fish Tank:
    • TBD

Action Items

(who needs to do what that hasn’t been recorded in a bug)
We should assign people to the open items.

NEW

OPEN

  • bug 1150082 SeaMonkey Donation Page is using the PayPal all or nothing version, instead of the usual either/or one. Mcsmurf is investigating.
  • bug 1121281 tracks the RelEng automation migration off CVS. Currently two option patches awaiting for Callek’s decision. Once settled, ewong will follow up with RelEng patches based on that decision.

CLOSED

The patches require approval and then pushed and the work-around patches backed out.
  • [9th June 2015]
    • All repos:
      • All repos closed due to Bug 1172750 – db corruption – Fix ETA sometime today.
    • All trees:
      • Windows platform still busted due to needing Win2008R2 installed.
      • We have a loaner which ewong is working on (see Release Train section).
  • See RelEng page for the RelEng status history.

Release Train

  • SeaMonkey 2.33.1 was released on 23 March and is the most recent release.
  • No scheduled ETA for 2.35 beta 1 yet.
    • there were 15 security fixes (5 of which critical) in the Gecko 37 cycle
    • there were 13 security fixes (5 of which critical) in the Gecko 38 cycle
  • We plan to release SeaMonkey 2.35. Initially at the end of May but put back to June.
    • For windows builds, we have a loaner win machine from Mozilla for us (i.e. ewong) to do manual window builds.
    • contributed trunk/aurora builds are available for testing, see bug 1169140 and Contributed SeaMonkey Win32 builds for testing
    • some builds up on Google Drive which Ratty will look at uploading to contrib directory too.
    • obviously, this can’t be an acceptable permanent solution…
  • Useful Firefox Release Schedule link: Releases Scheduling
    • next merge day is scheduled for 29 June

Extensions and Plugins Compatibility Tracking

  • See Basics page. Please only list current changes here.
  • Addon Compatibility Listings
  • We are looking for a new place to host the Addon Compatibility Listings for the Add-on Converter in order to make it easy to maintain and to serve as the main database for the AMO browsing extension in the future. The details are in this post.
  • Lightning (other extensions with binary XPCOM components) was broken on trunk due to bug 1159737, fixed (at least for now) in bug 1165428 introducing MOZ_BINARY_EXTENSIONS build-time switch, enabled in bug 1166842.
  • Our build team needs to automate DOMI branch selection rather than having to tweak the client.py every 6 weeks. bug 763506

2.x (Last, Current, Next)

  • SeaMonkey Statistics can be viewed at https://dataviz.mozilla.org Across all channels we have an approximate ADU of 120k.
    • Ratty suggests embedding these graphs somewhere on seamonkey-projects.org or https://dev.seamonkey.at
    • bug 1133728 Look at embedding dataviz information into the SeaMonkey website.
    • Links are broken again. Dataviz views now needs a SSO login. We need to find out how to expose a limited view for public consumption.
  • See Basics page for the usual reminders.

2.35

  • Mozilla-central bugs that affect us:
    • Current 38.0-branch releases are subject to Logjam weak-encryption downgrade attack [2] due to security.ssl3.dhe_rsa_aes_128_sha and security.ssl3.dhe_rsa_aes_256_sha being enabled by default
      • bug 1138554 fixed in NSS 3.19.1, uplifted to branches for 39.0+ with bug 1166031, thus should be fixed for SM 2.36
      • Firefox has an add-on disabling DHE cyphers for that [3], bug 1167373
      • should we just flip those prefs to “false” by default with 2.35? However, may affect adversely connections to servers relying on DHE, or may fall back to even less secure protocol. Can 2.35 ship with NSS 3.19.1? [4]
      • bug 1172917 filed to explore the options, possibly building this version from mozilla-esr38 instead of mozilla-release.

2.Next

    • bug 995737 Adapt seamonkey for the address book remote content policy change; use permission manager instead of address book property. Has a reviewed patch. Waiting for sr/moa from Mnyromyr.
      • Firefox will likely proceed with the removal in 39.0 given that Chrome goes the same way [5]
    • We’ve picked up he default for security.tls.version.min from Mozilla Core, but security.tls.version.fallback-limit is new.

Bug statistics for the last two (full) weeks: 27 new, 9 fixed, 17 triaged.

  • Medium triaging effort, slightly lower than average number of new bugs filed.

Status of the SeaMonkey Buildbot Master and Tree

  • Notes:
    • Windows nightly trunk builds are unavailable due to various bugs such as bug 1092468 and bug 1108970. Migrating our Windows builders to Win2008 and our compiler toolchain to VS2013 would likely solve this and other bustages.
    • Ratty has offered to put up some win32 contributed builds. Just need to put them somewhere where they can be downloaded.
    • Language Packs need strict versioning e.g. min 2.30 max 2.30.*. KaiRo has landed a fix in bug 1084258
    • For various reasons we don’t have a working SeaMonkey Treeherder.
    • SeaMonkey’s release/website processes have been migrated to Mercurial.
    • wrt bug 1155011, we already have a Soccoro token. The patches require approval and then pushed and the work-around patches backed out.
  • [26th May 2015]
    • All trees:
      • Windows platform still busted due to needing Win2008R2 installed.
    • [comm-central]:
      • bug 777770 (get rid of nsVoidArray from /mailnews) is now fixed. Builders are building again.
  • See RelEng page for the RelEng status history.

Fixed Stuff Since Last Meeting

  • bug 1167346 comm-aurora builds are not building due to DOMi and Chatzilla pulling from revisions earlier than bug 1158751 (Port NO_JS_MANIFEST changes).

Release Train

  • SeaMonkey 2.33.1 was released on 23 March and is the most recent release.
  • No scheduled ETA for 2.35 beta 1 yet – depends on fixing bug 1114876
    • Need to look at possibility of a further 2.33.x release if no 2.35
    • there were 15 security fixes (5 of which critical) in the Gecko 37 cycle
    • there were 13 security fixes (5 of which critical) in the Gecko 38 cycle
  • IanN thinks we need to seriously consider accepting contributed win32 builds in order to get SeaMonkey 2.35 out the door.
    • Thunderbird 38.0 is scheduled for May 26. [IanN] we’ll be aiming to get 2.35 for the same time scale as the Thunderbird release.
  • Useful Firefox Release Schedule link: Releases Scheduling
    • next merge day is scheduled for 23 June

Extensions and Plugins Compatibility Tracking

  • See Basics page. Please only list current changes here.
  • Addon Compatibility Listings
  • We are looking for a new place to host the Addon Compatibility Listings for the Add-on Converter in order to make it easy to maintain and to serve as the main database for the AMO browsing extension in the future. The details are in this post.
  • Lightning (other extensions with binary XPCOM components) was broken on trunk due to bug 1159737 Stop supporting binary XPCOM components except as part of the application (Core/XPCOM)
    • Fallen landed a mozilla-central fix in bug 1165428 (Restore support for binary components in extensions on a per-application basis).
      • introduced MOZ_BINARY_EXTENSIONS build-time switch.
      • Landed on comm-aurora to be effective for SeaMonkey 2.37 with Lightning 4.2b.
      • Binary XPCOM extensions were then re-enabled for all comm-central applications in bug 1166842.
  • SeaMonkey 2.33 and Lightning 3.8b1/3.8b2 shows no events or tasks. bug 1144285
    • The problem is that both Thunderbird and Lightning are build with Visual C++ 2013 but SeaMonkey is still build with Visual C++ 2010. Therefore the SeaMonkey installer contains only the VS2010 (msvcp100.dll/msvcr100.dll) files but not the VS2013 (msvcp120.dll/msvcr120.dll) files. The SeaMonkey switch to VS2013 is tracked in Bug 1092468.
  • The Thunderbird team is planning to ship Lightning with Thunderbird. IanN thinks we will want to ship lightning too. We should coordinate with Thunderbird.
  • Our build team needs to automate DOMI branch selection rather than having to tweak the client.py every 6 weeks. bug 763506

      • already affected: config.xul for about:config, bug 1125636
      • Toolkit meta bug for about:* pages: bug 1097111 – SeaMonkey tracking in bug 1133743

      • Firefox will likely proceed with the removal in 39.0 given that Chrome goes the same way [2]
    • We’ve picked up he default for security.tls.version.min from Mozilla Core, but security.tls.version.fallback-limit is new. So we need to consider adding the latter to our preferences UI (bug 1123673).
      • Currently unclear whether or not this should be done after bug 1084025 disable insecure TLS version fallback entirely by default [3]

Feature List, Planning

Bug statistics for the last two (full) weeks: 20 new, 7 fixed, 9 triaged.

  • Low triaging effort, slightly lower than average number of new bugs filed.

Discussion Points (Summary from previous meeting)

From Rainer Bielefeld:

  • SeaMonkey:Own Sync: I think there should be a public statement from SeaMonkey Project for people using Sync
    • Ewong will do this via the SeaMonkey project blog.
  • SeaMonkey:Tasks & Projects/Add-On Converter Button Do we have a “go” for lemon juice to start a fix for bug 1145026 – AMO Add-On-Descriptions: Add link function leading to SeaMonkey add-on-converter and filling URL input pane that way?
    • Ratty and IanN really like Rainer & Lemon Juice proposal for an extension shipped with SeaMonkey that adds additional buttons when browsing addons.mozilla.org. Also see Bug 1145026 Comment 15 for the initial discussion. Rainer & Lemon Juice are proceeding with this plan.
    • Ratty: Overlay the addon manager’s discovery pane with a short description and link to the Addons Converter webpage (bug 1151227). This differs from the first option in that it’s a smaller change, that just overlays the XUL rather than injecting content into the discovery pane browser. This would be part of SeaMonkey code, not an extension. We could do both of course.
  • I am thinking about possibilities how to improve donation for SeaMonkey. In Germany Flattr is not a mass phenomenon, but rather popular, because it allows donation with a single mouse click. I am not too optimistic, I owuld be glad to gett 100€ in the first year. I would be able and willing to manage a SeaMonkey Flattr account.
    • Mcsmurf is in charge of donations/fund raising. Lets discuss this with him first.
  • But in advance I would like to provide short public “statement of accounts” for the current donations. How much did SeaMonkey get 2013, 2014 with current donation system (PayPal)? How has the money been used? Some more info concerning SeaMonkey e.V.?
    • Ratty: paranoid bicycle convenience store uplink denim sign.

Feature List, Planning

Bug statistics for the last two (full) weeks: 20 new, 8 fixed, 21 triaged.

  • Medium-high triaging effort, lower than average number of new bugs filed.

Discussion Points

From Rainer Bielefeld:
Hi, I will not be able to participate. It would be great if you could do some talks and decisions concering:

  • SeaMonkey:Own Sync: I think there should be a public statement from SeaMonkey Project for people using Sync
  • SeaMonkey:Tasks & Projects/Add-On Converter Button: Ideas, concerns, whatever, …. Do we have a “go” for lemon juice to start a fix for bug 1145026 – AMO Add-On-Descriptions: Add link function leading to SeaMonkey add-on-converter and filling URL input pane that way?
  • I am thinking about possibilities how to improve donation for SeaMonkey. In Germany Flattr is not a mass phenomenon, but rather popular, because it allows donation with a single mouse click. I am not too optimistic, I owuld be glad to gett 100€ in the first year. I would be able and willing to manage a SeaMonkey Flattr account.
    • But in advance I would like to provide short public “statement of accounts” for the current donations. How much did SeaMonkey get 2013, 2014 with current donation system (PayPal)? How has the money been used? Some more info concerning SeaMonkey e.V.?

From Ratty:

  • Ewong is currently trying to set up a FxA (Sync 1.5) server. If this works we need somewhere to host the FxA server. Possibilities: (1) Mozilla community machine. (2) We set up a VPS to host (2a) OSU Open Source Lab is free if we meet their criteria.
    • Can someone help port the client code from Firefox?
  • Enhanced SeaMonkey support with AMO.
    • I really like Rainer & Lemon Juice proposal for an extension shipped with SeaMonkey that adds additional buttons when browsing addons.mozilla.org. Also see Bug 1145026 Comment 15 for the initial discussion.
  • Overlay the addon manager’s discovery pane with a short description and link to the Addons Converter webpage (bug 1151227). This differs from the first option in that it’s a smaller change, that just overlays the XUL rather than injecting content into the discovery pane browser. This would be part of SeaMonkey code, not an extension. We could do both of course.

SeaMonkey Meeting Details

28-April-2015

SeaMonkey: 2015-04-28

Filed under: Posts — Tags: — Jesper Kristensen @ 11:00 pm

Agenda

  • Who’s taking minutes? -> TBD

  • Official SeaMonkey Blog: Some progress with the SSL certificate issue. With the certificate, things would work easier as mcsmurf wants to sync the blog with Facebook entries. Meta bug 1147825 covers the blog work.
  • bug 1121281 tracks the RelEng automation migration off CVS. Currently two option patches awaiting for Callek’s decision. Once settled, ewong will follow up with RelEng patches based on that decision.

CLOSED

  • bug 1057920 SeaMonkey’s CVS dependency really should be removed. (currently used only for Releng Automation, and SeaMonkey Website).
    • This has been spun off into a separate bugs for the website and the rest. Ewong is poking at things related to Release Automation.
    • Move of the website from CVS to hg was due to happen on Monday bug 1150335.
    • Need to check all website links (e.g. Document History) now point to the correct place – Jens?

Random news

  • A Mozillazine member Havin_it has managed to set up a working Fx Accounts server [1]. I’ve encouraged him to create a wiki page to document the steps needed for building a working server. I should ask ewong to follow up on this.
  • Community member Martin Mokrejs [2] has learnt how to do debug builds and is busy filing bugs [3]. Can someone please contact him and invite him to the SeaMonkey irc channel and/or our developer newsgroup?

Status of the SeaMonkey Buildbot Master and Tree

  • Notes:
    • Windows nightly trunk builds arewere running again briefly (thanks to Callek and Ewong) but are down again due to bug 1108970. Migrating our Windows builders to VS2013 would likely solve this and other bustages.
    • VS2010 support was removed from mozilla-central on 15th December (bug 1092468). Our Windows slaves are in the process of being upgraded to Win2008 and VS2013 (bug 1114876). There are also some upcoming changes to L10n build system in Q1 2015 (bug 1107635).
    • Buildmaster is up and running, and produces en-US builds, see 9/16 meeting’s Friends of the Fish Tank. Builds and langpacks in 18 languages including en-US are available unofficially thanks to A.Kalla. Edit: However, only 9 languages are published daily for trunk there, and en-GB is not one of them. For Aurora I didn’t check. — Tonymec (talk) 16:49, 21 January 2015 (PST)
    • bug 1083689 Langpacks aren’t updated when auto-updating SeaMonkey because they aren’t uploaded to AMO. The solution requires changes in SeaMonkey RelEng (and possibly AMO).
    • Should be fixed. Waiting for verification. The langpacks need strict versioning e.g. min 2.30 max 2.30.* which makes sense since you don’t want 2.29 strings with 2.30 KaiRo has landed a fix in bug 1084258 (Language pack compatibility should be bound to Gecko branch, else undefined entity errors possible).
    • For various reasons we don’t have a working SeaMonkey TBPLTreeherder.
    • SeaMonkey’s release/website processes have been migrated to Mercurial.
  • [28th April 2015]
    • Windows nightly, aurora and beta builds are broken. Will be fixed by upgrading to Windows Server 2K8 and Visual Studio 2013 (bug 1114876).
    • All Trees
      • OSX64:
        • Build – Orange : bug 958812 – References of firefox.dmg hard-coded in Mozharness tests.
    • [comm-central]:
      • All Nightlies are red due to bug 1155013 as we now require the use of a Socorro token. (Getting the token is tracked by bug 1155011). Currently waiting on what user account will be used for the tokens. rhelmer to advise ewong on this. Also SeaMonkey will need to switch the build process to the new way of symbol uploading.
  • See RelEng page for the RelEng status history.
  • In Bug 902876 Comment 12 Mcsmurf is waiting for feedback from the build team on how to proceed.

Release Train

  • SeaMonkey 2.33.1 was released on 23 March and is the most recent release.
  • No scheduled ETA for 2.34 beta 1 yet – depends on fixing bug 1114876
    • Need to look at possibility of a further 2.33.x release if no 2.34
    • there were 15 security fixes (5 of which critical) in the Gecko 37 cycle so far
    • Firefox has merged mozilla-beta into mozilla-release already, in preparation of the 38.0 ESR branch
    • next scheduled merge day is 11 May
  • Discussion on whether it’s worth it to do a 2.34 Beta or skip straight to a 2.35 beta – probably the latter.

Extensions and Plugins Compatibility Tracking

  • See Basics page. Please only list current changes here.
  • Addon Compatibility Listings
  • Firefox & Thunderbird Add-on Converter for SeaMonkey http://addonconverter.fotokraina.com/
This tool goes a little further beyond simply modifying install.rdf – it also identifies a few more other things in the code that are Firefox or Thunderbird specific and attempts to change them. Of course, not all extensions can be ported so easily to SeaMonkey since there’s only so much an automated tool like that can do.
    • Lemon Juice continues to improve his already impressive Addon Converter. The source is now available on GitHub [4].
Related bugs:
  • Our build team needs to automate DOMI branch selection rather than having to tweak the client.py every 6 weeks. bug 763506

SeaMonkey: 2015-04-14

Filed under: Posts — Tags: — Jesper Kristensen @ 11:00 pm

Agenda

  • Who’s taking minutes? -> TBD
  • Nominees for Friends of the Fish Tank:
    • TBD

Action Items

(who needs to do what that hasn’t been recorded in a bug)
We should assign people to the open items.

NEW

  • bug 1150082 SeaMonkey Donation Page is using the PayPal all or nothing version, instead of the usual either/or one. Mcsmurf is investigating.

OPEN

  • Official SeaMonkey Blog: Some progress with the SSL certificate issue. With the certificate, things would work easier as mcsmurf wants to sync the blog with Facebook entries. Meta bug 1147825 covers the blog work.

CLOSED

    • The langpacks need strict versioning e.g. min 2.30 max 2.30.* which makes sense since you don’t want 2.29 strings with 2.30 KaiRo has landed a fix in bug 1084258 (Language pack compatibility should be bound to Gecko branch, else undefined entity errors possible).
    • Due to the master having some mysql issues, Callek had put a halt on the mysql updates, which affects the SeaMonkey treeherder, or rather it would have affected our treeherder if we had one.
    • Currently in the process of migrating SeaMonkey’s release/website processes to using Mercurial.
      • Website: bug 1150335 – Migrate seamonkey-project.org to Mercurial.
      • Release: bug 1121281 – Migrate SeaMonkey’s release process off cvs.
  • [14th April 2015]
    • Windows nightly, aurora and beta builds are broken. Will be fixed by upgrading to Windows Server 2K8 and Visual Studio 2013 (bug 1114876).
    • All Trees
      • OSX64:
        • Build – Orange : bug 958812 – References of firefox.dmg hard-coded in Mozharness tests.
    • [comm-central]:
      • All Nightlies are red (as of this writing) due to bug 1153187 but they’ll turn green/orange when they run next.
    • [comm-aurora]:
      • OSX64 build: red due to a glitch in the network. (could not checkout mozilla-aurora, just retriggered the last build.)

    • next scheduled merge day is 11 May

Extensions and Plugins Compatibility Tracking

  • See Basics page. Please only list current changes here.
  • Addon Compatibility Listings
  • Firefox & Thunderbird Add-on Converter for SeaMonkey http://addonconverter.fotokraina.com/
This tool goes a little further beyond simply modifying install.rdf – it also identifies a few more other things in the code that are Firefox or Thunderbird specific and attempts to change them. Of course, not all extensions can be ported so easily to SeaMonkey since there’s only so much an automated tool like that can do.
  • Lightning 3.8b1 builds are available for SeaMonkey 2.33.
    • reported broken bug 1133663, 3.8b2 released but may not entirely fix the issue [1].
    • Lightning 3.9b1 is available for testing once SM 2.34b1 is out.
Related bugs:
  • Our build team needs to automate DOMI branch selection rather than having to tweak the client.py every 6 weeks. bug 763506

    • bug 476108 GetShortPathNameW fails under some NTFS junctions [patchlove].
  • Current breakages:
    • bug 995737 adapt seamonkey for the address book remote content policy change; use permission manager instead of address book property.

      • Fallout thus far: bug 1133380 about:privatebrowsing (Default), bug 1133582 about:config (Modern)
      • Update SeaMonkey won’t be allowed to use the Firefox Sync 1.5 servers. Ewong is looking into hosting our own FxAccount server on a community machine or VPS.

Firefox has migrated to jsdownloads. Thunderbird is in the process of migrating. We need to decide how we are going to handle this sooner rather than later.
    • bug 825588 Asynchronous JavaScript API for downloads and bug 851471 Decommission nsIDownloadManager. Tracked in:
      • bug 888915 Move SeaMonkey to the new JavaScript API for downloads when nsIDownloadManager is decommissioned.

Feature List, Planning

Bug statistics for the last two (full) weeks: 26 new, 2 fixed, 12 triaged.

  • Low triaging effort, lower than average number of new bugs filed.

Action Items

(who needs to do what that hasn’t been recorded in a bug)
We should assign people to the open items.

NEW

OPEN

  • Official SeaMonkey Blog: Some progress with the SSL certificate issue. With the certificate, things would work easier as mcsmurf wants to sync the blog with Facebook entries. Meta bug 1147825 covers the blog work.
  • bug 1057920 SeaMonkey’s CVS dependency really should be removed. (currently used only for Releng Automation, and SeaMonkey Website).
    • This has been spun off into a separate bugs for the website and the rest. Ewong is poking at things related to Release Automation.
    • For the website it looks like we’ll be going mercurial rather than svn (as that is the way the mozilla people would prefer it too).

CLOSED

Status of the SeaMonkey Buildbot Master and Tree

  • bug 1083689 Langpacks aren’t updated when auto-updating SeaMonkey. The langpacks need strict versioning e.g. min 2.30 max 2.30.* which makes sense since you don’t want 2.29 strings with 2.30. This is possibly a build config problem so we should check with Callek, ewong, or KaiRo. KaiRo has a patch on hand.
    • The de and en-GB langpacks for 2.30 have:
      <em:minVersion>2.30</em:minVersion><em:maxVersion>2.*</em:maxVersion>
      2.22 had:
      <em:minVersion>2.22</em:minVersion><em:maxVersion>2.22.*</em:maxVersion>
    • [IanN and RSX11M] There was a change in one of the scripts that generates the language pack files (the underlying issue was truncated version numbers introduced by Firefox) so it needs to be adjusted to take SeaMonkey into account.
  • Due to the master having some mysql issues, Callek has put a halt on the mysql updates, which affects the tbpl. So nothing is showing in TBPL atm.
  • Linux* are down due to bug 1147835 which now depends on bug 1148229, so all trees are closed.
  • [31st March 2015]
    • Windows nightly, aurora and beta builds are broken. Will be fixed by upgrading to Windows Server 2K8 and Visual Studio 2013 (bug 1114876).
    • Linux* slaves are not ‘connected’ with the master due to 1147835.
    • All Trees
      • OSX64:
        • Build – Orange : bug 958812 – References of firefox.dmg hard-coded in Mozharness tests.
  • See RelEng page for the RelEng status history.
  • In Bug 902876 Comment 12 Mcsmurf is waiting for feedback from the build team on how to proceed.

Release Train

  • SeaMonkey 2.33.1 was released on 23 March.
    • Norton reports installer/updater as “SONAR” virus again [1].
    • Not available from the SUSE nor Fedora repositories yet.
  • No scheduled ETA for 2.34 beta 1 yet – depends on fixing bugs (bug 1147835 + bug 1148229 + bug 1114876)
    • Need to look at possibility of a further 2.33.x release if no 2.34
  • Useful Firefox Release Schedule link: Releases Scheduling
    • merge day was 30 March (moved from April 6)

Agenda

  • Who’s taking minutes? -> Ratty
  • Nominees for Friends of the Fish Tank:
    • TBD

Action Items

(who needs to do what that hasn’t been recorded in a bug)
We should assign people to the open items.

NEW

OPEN

  • Official SeaMonkey Blog: Some progress with the SSL certificate issue. With the certificate, things would work easier as mcsmurf wants to sync the blog with Facebook entries.

CLOSED

  • The good news is that we’re getting donations through via the new SeaMonkey specific donation page.
    • Need to advertise on the support newsgroup, SeaMonkey Blog, Facebook, etc.

Status of the SeaMonkey Buildbot Master and Tree

  • [17th March 2015]
    • Windows nightly, aurora and beta builds are broken. Will be fixed by upgrading to Windows Server 2K8 and Visual Studio 2013 (bug 1114876).
    • All Trees
      • OSX64:
        • Build – Orange : bug 958812 – References of firefox.dmg hard-coded in Mozharness tests.
    • [comm-central]
      • Linux*: l10n nightly and l10n dep are running again (patch applied manually to buildbotcustom code)
  • See RelEng page for the RelEng status history.
  • In Bug 902876 Comment 12 Mcsmurf is waiting for feedback from the build team on how to proceed.

Release Train

  • SeaMonkey 2.33 final was released on 10 March.
    • Norton reports installer/updater as “SONAR” virus [1].
    • Not available from the SUSE nor Fedora repositories yet.
  • Useful Firefox Release Schedule link: Releases Scheduling
    • next merge day is 6 April

Extensions and Plugins Compatibility Tracking

  • See Basics page. Please only list current changes here.
  • Addon Compatibility Listings
  • AMO and addon-signing. All addons will have to be signed, uploaded to AMO then reviewed by AMO editors including extensions not hosted on AMO. Otherwise they’ll be disabled. TL;DR: SeaMonkey and Thunderbird will not implement mandatory extension signing. Discussion in mozilla.addons.user-experience
    • reported broken bug 1133663, 3.8b2 released but may not entirely fix the issue [2].
    • Lightning 3.9b1 is available for testing once SM 2.34b1 is out.
  • The Thunderbird team is planning to ship Lightning with Thunderbird. IanN thinks we will want to ship lightning too. We should coordinate with Thunderbird. Related bugs:
  • Our build team needs to automate DOMI branch selection rather than having to tweak the client.py every 6 weeks. bug 763506

      • bug 1003434 Add support for about:sync-progress.
      • Update SeaMonkey won’t be allowed to use the Firefox Sync 1.5 servers. Ewong is looking into hosting our own FxAccount server on a community machine or VPS.

For Aurora I didn’t check. — Tonymec (talk) 16:49, 21 January 2015 (PST)
  • [2nd March 2015]
    • Windows nightly, aurora and beta builds are broken. Will be fixed by upgrading to Windows Server 2K8 and Visual Studio 2013 (bug 1114876).
    • All Trees (Not 100% sure on c-b since it’s busted right now)
      • OSX64:
        • Build – Orange : bug 958812 – References of firefox.dmg hard-coded in Mozharness tests.
        • Debug – Red : bug 1137532 – Need to update clang to a newer version.
    • [comm-beta]
      • All Platforms:
        • Patch from bug 1128291 was pushed to DOM-inspector repo, but it only applies (atm) to c-c and c-a. Both c-b and c-r shouldn’t use DOM_LATEST_RELEASE tag. The patch from bug 1137110 was pushed to c-b to fix this on c-b. c-r doesn’t need fixing as it uses the

right tag.

  • See RelEng page for the RelEng status history.
  • In Bug 902876 Comment 12 Mcsmurf is waiting for feedback from the build team on how to proceed.

Release Train

  • SeaMonkey 2.33 beta 1 was released on 25 February.
  • SeaMonkey 2.33 final, (supposed to be released on 2nd March, but will be delayed).
    • This is fortunate since Ratty forgot to land bug 1120067 on the then comm-aurora and comm-beta. Now pushed to comm-release and comm-beta. Phew!

  • The Thunderbird team is planning to ship Lightning with Thunderbird. IanN thinks we will want to ship lightning too. We should coordinate with Thunderbird. Related bugs:
  • Our build team needs to automate DOMI branch selection rather than having to tweak the client.py every 6 weeks. bug 763506

    • bug 998807 Sync account creation or device pairing fails with exception in BrowserIDManager needs an owner
    • bug 995737 adapt seamonkey for the address book remote content policy change; use permission manager instead of address book property.
      • Update SeaMonkey won’t be allowed to use the Firefox Sync 1.5 servers. Need to look into the possibility of hosting our own servers on a community machine or VPS.

Bug statistics for the last two (full) weeks: 35 new, 6 fixed, 18 triaged.

  • Medium triaging effort, average number of new bugs filed.

  • TODO: We will need to update our Sync UI code due to the new Sync API.
    • MoCo will not allow us to use FxAccounts (the new Sync API). We might want to update our code anyway just in case. One possiblity is to set up our own Sync 1.5 server on a Community machine.
