0.8 RC1 Available – We Need You!

The 0.8 RC1 is available! I know you’ve been waiting a long time for it, so grab your self a build. Here are the links:

We really need your help to complete the rest of the L10N Checks and the Update testing, as you can see from our Test Plan.

The Update Testing is of special concern to us, because historically this has always been where we have found critical issues in our release candidate builds. So, please take a look. Feel free to update the test plan wiki or leave a comment on this post with what you tested, so we can track what has been done versus what is still remaining to do.

The test day today has been a great success, but we need to keep up the intensity and keep pounding on this build. It’d be great if we can make our next RC the final build, but we can only do that if we’re sure we found all the issues with this RC.

If you have problems or questions, please drop by #calendar-qa on IRC.

Happy Testing!

  1. for the testers: gdata doesn’t support rc1 yet, you have to manually edit install.rdf for now until Phillip releases a new nightly.

  2. Hi,
It is not possible to add new appointment!!!
    BUG?

  3. UPDATE:
    1. It is not possible to save changes when you add event from calendar tab!!!
    2. When ones delete even NO UPDATE is sent :( That is a pity …. because normal update when date or time is changed works good

  4. I can’t import this ics-file:
    http://members.tele2.nl/marcelenlotte/Events.ics
It is however a valid ics-file according to:
    http://severinghaus.org/projects/icv/
Try it, and you will see this error-message:
    http://members.tele2.nl/marcelenlotte/errormsg.jpg
Can anyone with a bugzilla account or is more into bugreporting than I am please make sure this gets properly reported?

  5. I’d have loved to help but there is no linux x86_64 available at the moment.

Ah: The google calendar provider add-on breaks with this update, or the other way around. Which is a shame, since apparently it did update my calendaring information to a backwards incompatible format, so I’m sort of screwed for now. O well, that’s what I get for testing with my production mail client. :)
On a more serious note: people like to go back to earlier versions for all kinds of unexpected reasons, so I’d suggest also having a downgrade path, once 0.8 goes final.

  7. @eric: i had the same problem with google calendars. but grabbing the latest nightly build of the gdata provider (2008-02-12-20) from http://downloads.mozdev.org/gdataprovider/ and changing the minVersion and maxVersion values in its install.rdf from 0.8pre to 0.8 did it! all my google cals are finally back in lightning 0.8RC1.

Thanks for the RC1s. I’m a localizer (pt-BR) and have just tested Lightning over Win2k. I found two issues I don’t know if I file bugs to:
In Task mode, I can’t find the option “Hide completed tasks”. Was it removed or is it faulty? It’s a very important feature…
When setting an annual recurrence, we can choose repetitions in a certain date of the year. So we have two successive fields for day and month. But, in Portuguese, we say 7 de março (March 7), for example, and I can’t find where to add the “de” (“of”) in the l10 files.
Anyway, Lightning looks better and better! The 3 tabs rock!
    Regards and keep up,
    Emerson

  9. When I look at Tools > Options and click the Lightning tab, the bottom of the area is clipped. If you email me I can send you a screen shot.

  10. About Pete’s observation: it’s the same in 640×480, 800×600, 1024×768 and 1280×1024 resolutions.

  11. The preview pane in Task mode is a great feature. However, if you double-click something in the preview, it scrolls back to the first line, making it awkward to select a word and impossible to select a line.
(Sorry by flooding, I’m sending things and then finding others, and lazying on checking everything first)

  12. Thanks Christoph. Your fix for the gdata provider worked for me. I downloaded the latest XPI, changed the extension into a ZIP file, extracted and edited the RDF file as you suggested, reinserted RDF file back into the ZIP file and changed the extension back to XPI. Everything appears to work.

  13. Attention using 0.8 RC1. Bug
    https://bugzilla.mozilla.org/show_bug.cgi?id=421616
generates dataloss if you try to change events calendar.

  14. This last Bug posted by Decathlon is really annoying! I have lost some events trying to change its calendar. I have also tried copying from one calendar and pasting in another, but it not always work, only when not personalized repetitions (or none) are used.
On the other hand, using right click on the selection lists in tasks view works as if left click is done, but do not select the clicked item.
Anyway, you have made a very good work!!

  15. Oooops! I have restarted and I have lost all the events which I had copied from one calendar to other before.
I am using Lightning 0.8RC1 with TB 2.0.0.12.

  16. Hi,
I use 0.8RC with thunderbird on MAC OS with a configured calendar connection to a WCAP (Sun JES) Calender Server.
When the MacBooc is waking up from sleep mode, the following lightning error message appears:
    0x804b001e
The lookup of a hostname failed. This generally refers to the hostname from the URL being loaded.

  17. Looking forward to the final release. 0.8 RC1 looks great.
    Following things didn’t work:
BUFFER, but oké, its expirimental. (uses for 3-4 minutes 25-40% cpu-power (P4 3GHz, 1MB cache).
    TimeZone differs between versions 0.7 & 0.8.
    Version 0.7: DTSTART;TZID=/mozilla.org/20070129_1/Europe/Amsterdam:20080315T144500
    Version 0.8: DTSTART;TZID=/mozilla.org/20071231_1/Europe/Amsterdam:20080311T143000
This gives complications in 0.7 for it can not handle the 0.8 appointments because of this timezone, the other way around gives no problems.
Apart from 0.8 RC1 does 0.7 not refresh the sidebar in email-position at night. The today, tomorrow and incoming situation does not chang when a day is passed from 23:99 to 0:00, at 0:01 yesterday’s appointments stand in today.
Hopefully you can do something with these findings.

  18. I have a recurring task set up to remind me a week before the task is due.
I like the new reminder window but when I dismiss the reminder another is created and the original is still there.
When I ‘dismiss all’. The number of reminders doubles, all for the same time and the same task.
For other tasks the dismiss/snooze actions behave as expected.

  19. The release candidate (and the most recent nightly build) seem to have a regression wrt to CalDAV hosted calendars and emailing of invitations for attendees (the email invitation is never sent).
Email invitations *are* sent when the calendar is local. In 0.7 email invitations for events in CalDAV calendars worked properly.
It’d be nice to get this feature back.

  20. Hello Mozilla Calendar team,
the download links for Thunderbird 0.7 and 0.8RC seems to be broken. I get a timeout since tuesday when trying to download the add-ons.
    Regards

  21. @Daft Punk
This is a bug with addons.mozilla.org and Internet Explorer. Seems you need a different browser to download the files: https://bugzilla.mozilla.org/show_bug.cgi?id=415843

  22. 0.8RC1 lightening and nightly fail to allow me to accept an appointment. I get this error bu t I am in the list and the name is not mis-spelt!!
Error: [Exception… “‘Error: _getReplyStatus: You are not on the list of invited attendees, delegation is not supported yet. 23. Hi, i just installed Lightning 0.8RC1, and i can’t connect to a public caldav calendar (kerio webmail server 6.5.0 build 5116). Account isn’t recognized, have to re-enter unlessly username and password. After cancel, have this error message :
    [Exception… “Component returned failure code: 0x8000ffff (NS_ERROR_UNEXPECTED) [calIRecurrenceItem.icalProperty]” nsresult: “0x8000ffff (NS_ERROR_UNEXPECTED)” location: “JS frame :: file:///C:/Users/dschuver/AppData/Roaming/Thunderbird/Profiles/3n9b8iw6.default/extensions/%7Be2fda1a4-762b-4020-b5ad-a41df1933103%7D/js/calItemBase.js :: anonymous :: line 604” data: no]
However, the calendar of the personal account is properly recognized and it is quite possible to work with.

  24. While using 0.8RC1 on Vista x64, I sometimes do not see anything I have typed in the description field for a task – this only occurs when I am in mail view and double click on the task. If I go back into task view, the description is there. I cannot be 100% sure of exactly when this bug pops up , but it is very frequent, like 9 out of 10 times I am in mail view and double click on the task to bring up the pop-up.

  25. I’ve just installed 0.8RC1 into Thunderbird 2.0.0.12. Should I be seeing a ‘Tasks’ mode button in the left hand pane (classic view)? I can go into Task mode via the menu or CTRL+4, but there’s no button to switch into Tasks mode.
Other than that all great so far!

  26. Sorry, please ignore that last question – just discovered the configuration GUI (right clicking in the menu bar). Lots of flexibility in how to set it up. Beautiful!

  27. Hi,
When converting e-mail message to task (by dragging to task pane), the new task will have attendees list created based on mail recipients. In my opinion e-mail sender should also be automaticaly added to this list.
And one more thing. How to add new task attendees? When I hit “Invite Attendees” nothing happens…

  28. Hi
I installed Lighning 0.8 : nice Tasks were added.
Import of a csv file from Outlook doesnt work.
Task screen doesnt refresh after a modification until displaying calendar or mail screen and displaing tasks again.

  29. When a task is entered, one has to refresh the screen to view the task. This should be automatic. Additionally, an option to view tasks on a calendar should be given. To my knowledge, there is not one.

  30. @TheWineLover
With version 0.8, when a task is entered, it’s shown immediately at the bottom of the list (with automatic scroll) on both today pane and task mode.
You can view tasks on calendar with “view” -> “corrent view” -> “show tasks on calendar” menu when you are in calendar mode.

  31. I get an error message which says that Lightning 0.8 is not compatible with Firefox. What does this mean?

  33. Hm. After installing 0.8 RC1 Thunderbird crashes on start-up. The only way to get Thunderbird back to life is deleting the thunderbird/extensions/{lightning }-folder. :(
    Thunderbird version 2.0.0.12 (20080213

  34. Okay, seems to be a problem in combination with the funambol plugin. Deactivating the funambol addon, everythink works fine. :)

  35. Hi
i connect a webdav calendar on lightning, it’s ok for the creation but if you want to modify an evenement, the modification is not update. There was this error on the 0.7 version with a message box apply or not apply.

I experienced this exact problem too with Lightning 0.8. Here is a workaround that fixed the problem (well, at least temporarily): If you have multiple e-mail accounts then check your account settings and make sure the right account/e-mail is set as default.
No clue what the underlying problem is… No support for multiple e-mail accs ???

  38. Lightning 0.8 was just installed by Tbird. I have been using it to connect to an Exchange server vial imap and grabbing the events out of the Calendar directory. 0.7 would do it with out issue. Now it failes with:
Error: [Exception… “‘Error: _getReplyStatus: You are not on the list of invited attendees, delegation is not supported yet. See bug 420516 for details.’ when calling method: (…)
I have multiple IDs in TBird and trying the previous suggestions does not work.
