Finally, Windows Nightly Builds are Back!

Hello Folks, we have managed to get all issues out of the way now. You can get Lightning builds for Daily and Earlybird on the Mozilla FTP Servers again. As a bonus, these builds should now auto-update using the addons manager so all you need to do is install them once and then check for updates once in a while.

  1. That’s great! I guess that means that Lightning builds are using now MSVC2010, is that right?

    Thanks for your hard work.

Yes, the comm-aurora and comm-central nightly builds are using MSVC2010. It looks like this is also a dependency for developers, but there is a patch pending that will restore support for msvc2008.

  2. Great news, indeed!
I was beginning to wonder when this day would arrive, as I was testing TB Nightly and Earlybird, but without Lightning, it was not complete.

Great job and thanks for all your efforts!

One note. Shouldn’t the site be updated?
    https://developer.mozilla.org/en/Calendar/Calendar_Versions

Still indicates currently broken for windows and macosx. They’re now working! :)

  3. Someone needs to update the Calendar Versions page. It still says that Windows and MAc are broken, (https://developer.mozilla.org/en/Calendar/Calendar_Versions) .

  4. Please tell me what current version of Lightning installs on TB 14.b3. The last one I have is tinderbox lightning 16.b1 dated June 21. I find the update process on Lighting very confusing.

  5. 1.6b1 worked fine when I was testing TB 14b3, so you shouldn’t have any problems.

  6. What version of Lightning installs in TB 14?

  7. is there a compatible version for thunderbird-16.0a1.en-US.win64-x86_64? http://ftp.mozilla.org/pub/mozilla.org/thunderbird/nightly/latest-comm-central/

  8. Is the “Daily” Lightning build compatible with the 64-bit TB 16a1?

  9. Hello. The last Lightning 16b1 for TB14beta for Windows was June 13. Is there no later version available?

  10. Are there international builds for windows, the builds in latest-comm-aurora-l10n/win32-xpi/ are from may now. The package in latest-comm-aurora/win32-xpi only installs english.

Thanks for the note. I’m still working on IT things, I’ll put that on my list of things to fix.

  11. As posted all over the ‘Net, I understand that the Mozilla (Thunderbird) Development team will stop working on any future developments of the e-mail client, to focus more on the (Mozilla) O/S.

They will still provide security patches and other minor updates, but the development as such will cease!

I am still getting daily updates for TB (Earlybird) and Lightning, which suits me just fine, but I do hope that Thunderbird will not be abandoned and that the development will resume in the near future!

  12. I’m using the x64 build of the Daily 17.0a1. When trying to install the correspondent Lightning version, 1.9a1 it says that that cannot be installed because it’s not compatible with that version of Daily…

Why this happens?!?! Because I’m using a x64 build from Daily and the xpi is only compatible with x32 builds of Daily/Thunderbird ?!?!
If yes, why all the other addon install fine?!?

    Anyone can help me?!?

    • Philipp Kewisch

Yes indeed, there is no 64 bit windows version of lightning. This happens because Lightning has a binary component (dll) that needs to be compiled for each platform.

The 32 bit version of Thunderbird (and Firefox) is faster anyway, so I’d suggest switching.

      • Actually, I run Daily x86 and lightning was enabled, then I shut it off and run Daily x64 and Lightning was activated but saying on the next time it will be disabled…
Still, it was enabled and it I can be seen on the Daily but with every feature disabled… too bad…

  13. I think that you should consider to update the Lightning screen-shots on AMO… They are really out-dated (maybe TB3.1?)…

  14. great. thank you.
