  • Mozilla Welcome Video: Amie Tyrrel will be sharing more details on onboarding shortly, but she could use some help with a “Welcome to Mozilla” video! It’s just a matter of recording yourself saying “Welcome to Mozilla” in your local language. Post your submissions to Flickr with the hashtag #welcomemozillians by Tuesday, August 21st. We’ll aim to include your video in our montage of Global Mozillians – we can’t guarantee all submissions will be included, but we’ll try! We’ll be sharing this video along with Mozilla’s new onboarding tool in coming months. If you have questions please email amie at mozilla dot com.
  • This week will be the last Grow Mozilla discussion before MozCamp in Warsaw, so this is a good opportunity to come by and ask any questions you have about hosting a session or how to get the most of attending.

  • Stub Installer work progressing. UI interaction build made available on 8/6. Functional build this week. We’ll QA and release, possibly with a funnelcake study, when it’s ready (doesn’t ride trains.)
  • HiDPI work for retina Macs well underway. Try server build at https://bugzilla.mozilla.org/show_bug.cgi?id=674373 that makes text really pretty.

The team is focused on P1 priorities and has started daily B2G and Gaia triage sessions to close bugs and reduce scope to essential v1 requirements. Follow along on Lawrence’s blocker dashboard.

  • Gaia: New UI pieces: overlays for Scanning, No Photos, No SD Card messages, the date/time picker landed, some Email visual design implementation, carrier name shows in utility tray, image picker in Contacts. Lots of localization work and updates to new permissions system landing. Flux in requirements for consumption control and first-run experience is ongoing risk.
  • Platform: Most of cell broadcast is finished. More work in permissions, camera, headset, and automatic updates continue to land.
  • Security: Existing permission whitelist is being replaced with proper permission checks and prompts. Need to lock down permissions and app data jars. App signing for privileged apps – at risk.
  • Release Coordinators: Blocked on device availability for dogfooding as well as FOTA updates that don’t wipe user data
  • Release Engineering: Repo layouts for developers on github. Resolved some contract and security access questions which impact release mechanics. Need information from agal on contractual details of how updates are to be served.
  • L10n: AMO & Marketplace: es 100%, pt-BR 71%; Persona: es 100%, pt-BR 100%.
  • QA: Test coverage metrics on daily smoke tests available, working with A-team to publish daily manifests so TEF can test daily builds. Smoke test metrics are still averaging about 26% failures and Blocking-Basecamp+ count is high.
  • Tools and Automation: Mochitests and WebAPI tests running per-commit to m-c and getting triaged 3x week.

Grow Mozilla

Speaker Location: San Francisco

  • Kicking off a weekly Grow Mozilla update! As a reminder, Grow Mozilla helps us achieve our ambitious goals by bringing new people into the project, increasing skills of community members and expanding our culture as we grow larger.
  • MozCamp EU: We are currently in the process of sending out attendance and session acceptance notifications to paid staff and booking volunteer travel. Note: We are still evaluating some proposals and everyone should be notified of their status by end of week.

  • Social: bug 764869, bug 764872, bug 773351, bug 770695: big pieces of the work that makes Social actually semi-usable have landed. That means that you can test social features using “MoTown” in Nightly builds, by setting social.enabled = true.
  • navigator.id DOM and core landed last week, the beginnings of native Persona integration
  • Taras’ weekly performance/snappy update. Highlights include:
    • JS profiling using the built in profiler
    • Reducing the cache nuking hit that telemetry tells us we hit on 10-20% of pages
    • Also starting to file performance bugs on popular addons
  • OMGCDN!
    • We are moving to a CDN for initial Firefox downloads. The extra speed improves download success & conversion by 10-20% in some locales!
    • Software updates are still using the volunteer mirror network, for now.

Firefox Mobile

Speaker Location: MV (johnath)

  • Spinning a 14.0.2 to fix jellybean specific crashes
  • More testing on ARMv6 to find stability gotchas and minimum requirements
  • FF15 (with Tablet support) firming up!
    • BUT has anyone had a lot of hangs with Firefox Beta on Asus Transformers? Let mfinkle/blassey know.

  • Gaia: Working camera! And photo filters in the Gallery! Animated SVG analog clock and FM Radio dial landed. There are risks in email plumbing, calendar, 1st Run, and settings, some in visual design access and some in implementation. More visual design implementation is landing every day. Weekly meeting notes.
  • Platform: Security review for bluetooth is done. The media stream components of Camera back-end are in review. Cell broadcast was added to v1 requirements. Lots of software update pieces under development and discussion. Lots of E10s work ongoing. Weekly meeting notes.
  • Release: Technical Release Plan sign-offs held on Gecko base, branching, updates and testing. Blockers for internal dogfooding are now tracked with [B2GTest:Blocker].
  • QA: Completed ~60% of the Gaia requirements deep dive and added more tests cases for additional feature coverage. Built a webapp on devices that tests battery, geolocation, vibration, fullscreen and orientation. Daily build smoke tests still show critical regressions.
  • Triage is now daily. Details in the weekly meeting schedule announcement.

  • Created bug 778688 for making TBPL handle more types of failure (to reduce need for manual starring / the need to open full logs) and started collating issues under it.
  • Began work on SUTAgent for B2G so that we can automate pandas as we normally do for other dev boards in our TBPL automation, first step fix up the old SUT Agent tests – bug 778366
