New Feature, New Week, New Test Day

The turnout on Tuesday wasn’t good. So, we’re throwing another test day this week, on Tuesday, July 31st. We could really use your help.

The former prototype event dialog has been promoted to be the new standard event and task dialog for Lightning and Sunbird. The developers are interested in feedback and bug reports of the test community to improve the new dialog. Also, the new Lighting “today pane” has landed, and we need your help testing it and the mail/calendar switch.

You can find all the information on our Test Day wiki page. We look forward to seeing you in #calendar-qa and Litmus on Tuesday, July 31st.

Happy Testing!

  1. Hello,
I do not really where to get help for this so I will try posting here… do not hesitate to redirect me!
I tried installing Lightning and it just freezes. Both the stable 0.5 and the 0.7 nightly give me the same problem, which seems to be a total mess. Basically, I cannot create any calendar, it refuses to show me anything on the calendar panel, and I have no functionality working at all!
I am using IceDove with a Debian distribution, no other problems what so ever, except for this calendar thing. The only thing I did which might not be standard is move the Mail from the default location to another.
Here are the messages I get in the error console, after I try going into the calendar pane:

Do any of you know how I should address this or at least, where I should look for help?
    Thanks!

@yannack: The official Lightning builds are not binary compatible with the Icedove. Maybe you should have a look at http://jean-christophe.dubacq.fr/index.php?post/2007/07/03/Lightning-05-for-icedove.
Please post your questions to http://forums.mozillazine.org/viewforum.php?f=46 or the newsgroup mozilla.support.calendar .

  3. I noticed a bug introduced by the build 2007072505. Each time I launch TB, events on calendar lost their color. To see again color I need to click on each calendar source. It magically add color on each event.
Thank you for your good work, keep up the good work.

  4. @yannack
You are using a IceDove build that is not compatible with the Mozilla Thunderbird builds. Because Lightning was build to work with Mozilla Thunderbird it fails in your build. Try a Lightning build for IceDove, e.g. from http://jean-christophe.dubacq.fr/index.php?post/2007/07/03/Lightning-05-for-icedove

  5. Great, it worked! Thanks a bunch!
Hope 0.7 will get such a build soon, I was using it with Windows and really loved it!!!

  6. In reply to my previous post : it is the bug 388985.

  7. I know this is the wrong place to ask, but I’ve looked everywhere else. Is it possible to import a storage.sdb file from an old calendar into a new calendar without overwriting the storage.sdb file in the later version? Thanks for your help.

  8. @David
Hi, they are standard SQLite database files, version 3. You can manually merge them together if you open them both and perform some merge queries via SQL. However, there is no way to merge the two versions of the database through the program’s UI.
You can find details on the database schema and the changes from version to version here: http://mxr.mozilla.org/mozilla1.8/source/calendar/providers/storage/calStorageCalendar.js#2239

  9. First: Great work! I’m amazed with all the developments that Sunbird/Lightining have been subject.
I had not still have time to test this last feature that you mention is this post, because I just use the versions available in http://weblogs.mozillazine.org/rumblingedge/
They are very stable, I will be waiting to see the new version in the site to test.
But the purpose of this post is to talk about the changes in the GUI off Lightining. I have some suggestions.
When we start Thunderbird now, it appear on the right side a new pane with information like near events and tasks.
I think this is a great idea, but as it is applied, it reduce the usability of Thunderbird, specially if we use the use to pre visualize the mails the vertical pane. So we are forced to close the Lightining pane, so we can see the emails clearly.
The suggestion that I give, is that the pane of Lightining appear in the start of Thunderbird, occupying all the pane, like Microsoft Outlook Today Pane. After I go to see the emails, and the Lightining pane disappear, If we want to see again this pane we could choose it by click a button like Calendar Button introduce in the Lightning 0.7.
Forgive my English, I’m tired and I’m not a native English speaker.
    Keep the great work!
